Understanding Women’s Needs in So. Arizona
We live here but do we truly understand what itâs like to be a woman in Southern Arizona? The first program of 2019 will help shed light on the issues faced by single mothers and other women in Southern Arizona. Join TWOQC as it welcomes Krista Millay, Community Impact Director of the Womenâs Foundation of Southern Arizona, to our program on January 28. Krista will share information about the Foundation but also about the results of the latest research into the life and needs of women in Southern Arizona.
This morning program begins at 10:00 in the Madera ballroom and will include ample opportunity for questions from each of you.
Fashion Show Committee in Full Work Mode
âUnder One Umbrellaâ is the theme for this yearâs event. The gaily decorated tables will display colors for the various categories of cancer. The luncheon will showcase an elegant menu of Chicken Razz Spinach Salad (roasted red peppers, shaved carrots, candied Green Valley pecans, razz cranberries, sous vide grilled chicken breast), Lemon Tart w/whipped cream dollop & fresh raspberry, dinner rolls and coffee/tea.
Special cocktails will include: Raspberry Cosmo, and Raspberry/lemon drop.
Eight models will share casual to dressier clothing from Sole and The Croweâs Nest in Tubac. The show will provide tips for how to accessorize for different occasions.
The committee could use your assistance acquiring items for raffle baskets. Please consider designing one of your own baskets containing a few of your favorite items. Personalized baskets create much interest and fetch $$, all for The American Cancer Society.
Member Spotlight: Nancy Jacobs
Nancy Jacobs and her husband, CD (Jake) Jacobs, moved to Quail Creek in 2012 from Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Her husband’s career took them to various places, always leaving Nancy job hunting, leaving one to say she really became a “jack of all tradesâ. PHOTO OF NANCY
Nancyâs background is in human resources, business management, property management & construction, hospital administration, finance and for a time philanthropy on the reservation.
The couple has three children and several grandchildren who are living in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and California. As a family they spent time in Europe with Jake and Nancy working for the Department of Defense while the children attended schools on military posts.
When they finally settled back in the U.S., the couple both ended up working for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Cleveland, Ohio where they began their retirement. Then as residents of Colorado Nancy and Jake spent time in Tucson in the winter months and finally decided to sell their home and move to Arizona.
After visiting several Robson Communities, they chose Quail Creek and Green Valley as their home. Nancy says, “It is fun living here among so many talented and interesting people. I enjoy my membership in a number of organizations that help me stay active”. She is the Treasurer for The Women of Quail Creek.
Honor Flight Prepares for Take-Off
WHAT: The Honor Flight takes veterans to Washington DC to visit memorials commemorating their service. Chartered flights are coordinated for fall and spring tours. Flight #25 was cancelled this fall, however, those who are able to participate in the spring trip are included.
WHEN: The next flight will leave Tucson on April 23rd and return on the 24th.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT:Â On the return flight âmail callâ is announced. The guardian for each veteran delivers a packet of notes from family, relatives, friends, TWOQC and school children thanking them for their service to our country. Please write 55 notes of appreciation to the veterans; âTo a Veteranâ or âTo a Heroâ (a single note can be written and copies printed). Nearly all WWII veterans, who are well enough, have made the trip. Currently Korean War and Vietnam veterans are being honored. Need help getting started? Check out some ideas on writing notes to the veterans HERE.
Please place items in an unsealed envelope and give to Lori Clemens or Kay Robinson before April 8th.
We have been told that âMail Callâ is a highlight of the trip. The tributes are personal and remind those who served that they are not forgotten.
