- Folkloric Dancers Coming in June
- Member’s Corner: Member Spotlight
- Military Baby Shower Updates
- Community Connections: Honor Flight – April 23-24
- Upcoming Events
Welcome to spring and the excitement of awarding TWOQC Scholarships, diving into the latest from the Youth On Their Own organization, hosting the Military Baby Shower, and debuting summer with a festive June luncheon (Ballet Folkloric for entertainment). We are busier than ever and the fun never stops.
Spring is a time of transition in Quail Creek. Our seasonal members are steering toward cooler climates and many full timers are preparing for leaps around the globe. The wish is for everyone to be safe and to stay in touch with us at womenqc.com. As always thank you for your ongoing support and hard work. We are an amazing group of women creating awareness, promoting opportunity, and providing important services to many. CHEERS!
Mark your calendar for the Summer Luncheon, Monday, June 24th at 11:30 a.m. Folkloric Dancers will be entertaining us and the lunch will be the ever-popular Southwest Steak Salad with chocolate cake for dessert.
This is a ticketed event, $20 for members and $25 for first-time guests. Tickets will be available at the May 20th TWOQC program. Watch for more information in The Quail Creek Crossing and upcoming Friday Morning Messages and/or FMM Shorts.
Member Spotlight: Patty Ackerman
Patty was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her husband, Tim, grew up in Roseau, Minnesota—only ninety miles away. Somehow, they both ended up in Portland, Oregon where they met and were married. They’ve been married for 43 years and have two sons and five grandchildren. Patty was in the insurance business and worked for Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon and retired after twenty years. PHOTO: PATTY & GRANDCHILDREN
The couple spent several seasons on both the East and West coasts, from 1995 to 1999, watching their two sons play baseball at the collegiate and professional level.
The couple visited Quail Creek in 2001 on the Preferred Guest Program. They fell in love with the community and decided this is where they wished to retire, moving here in 2005. Patty and her husband have spent the past few summers in Oregon enjoying their grandchildren playing sports.
Patty has been a member of the Quail Creek Lady Niners Golf Club for several years, and enjoys playing golf with her girlfriends and her husband. She’s been a member of The Women of Quail Creek for a few years and last year she was a volunteer on the Military Baby Shower Committee.
Recently, Patty received an email from one of the couples she assisted at the baby shower. It included a photo of Brayden, now six months old, in his Halloween costume. Patty remembers holding him when he was only five weeks old. She says attending the shower was a very rewarding experience for her.
Military Baby Shower Updates
The excitement has begun. The Baby Shower Committee reports that three little girls have arrived (congrats to those families). Five military moms and twenty military dads comprise the group being honored from the 162 Air National Guard. Watch for more updates…
A huge shout of thanks goes to Gamma Sigma and the American Legion #131 for supplying 90 bottles of baby items; thirty bottles each of baby shampoo, baby wash, and baby lotion.
Also, thanks to everyone who stopped by the table outside the Grill and made both monetary and material donations. It truly takes a village and every donation is appreciated. And speaking of the village, the Baby Shower committee reports they have created 1,266 hand-made items for the shower so far. WELL DONE Baby Shower Committee!
