GRAND SLAM . . .
On Monday, July 15th TWOQC received exciting news that we had been named a winner of the AZ 19 Regionâs Most Influential People (Group) Award that recognizes people/group who have touched lives in communities along the I-19 corridor. The award is sponsored by the Green Valley News/Sahuarita Sun, and Nogales International in collaboration with area chambers of commerce. (Click/tap HERE to enlarge collage image from above.)
When Dru Sanchez, publisher of the Green Valley News, received our thanks, her response was âWell deserved. Thank you for all you all do in our community.â
This is a serendipitous moment for TWOQC as it coincides with our 15th year anniversary. Although we do our projects graciously and selflessly, it is a wonderful feeling to receive this recognition. In acknowledging our hard work past and present, I hope your heart is warmed, your spirit soaring, and your commitment reaffirmed.
âWe are pleased to advise that The Women of Quail Creek have been nominated and designated as a winner among the AZ 19 Regionâs Most Influential People. This is a special project and event to recognize some of those like your group, who give back to their communities or fellow citizens selflessly and usually without fanfare.â
A celebration reception will be held at Desert Diamond Casino on Tuesday, September 10th and will be featured in a special section of the Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun on September 11th and the Nogales International on September 13th. High fives, everyone!
Read the congratulatory letter on the Awards page.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Janice Messer
Janice Messer graduated as a Registered Nurse and spent her 20-year career outside of hospitals and clinics. She became a Certified (sometimes certifiable) Diabetes Educator, teaching understanding and self-care of diabetes to patients, their families, and to other nurses and caregivers. Janice also contributed four years to hospice nursing.
Janice and her husband, Richard, were married at nineteen during the Vietnam war era. Richard continued his flying career in the âwar on drugs,â working in multiple locations in Mexico, South America, and anywhere in the U.S. chasing smugglers. With her husband gone so much, Janice was left home with their girls where she learned many unusual useful skills, such as fixing washing machines and vacuum cleaners. Janice finally went back to college in 1965 finally finishing her nursing degree in 1992, having to retake courses which had changed in the 20 years she had been away.
The couple moved to Quail Creek in May 2017 from Southern California, away from all the traffic. They have two daughters; one is a nurse in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the other owns a gym and does motivational seminars in Orange County, the beach area. They have six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. PHOTO: JANICE & DAUGHTERS
Janice loves having time to read and crochet. She had learned to play mahjong and canasta with some great neighbors. She also wants to continue serving and giving back through TWOQC and their charities. PREVIOUS MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS
CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY: Clothing Drive
HELP NEEDED FOR VA HOMELESS CLOTHING DRIVE
We need your help! Our annual VA Homeless Clothing and Household Goods drive is being held this year on October 19 and we are looking for a few volunteers. It is a one-day event held here in Quail Creek that requires only about 3-hours of your time helping to sort and box donated items. This event is fast, fun and fulfilling.
If you can spare the time, please contact our event Volunteer Coordinator at activities@womenqc.com and she will find a job for you! You can also find the list of needed items on the website’s Menu bar (look under the Charitable Committees tab and click on Clothing Drive and Household Goods). A big “thank-you” to all who donated boxes–we have reached our goal but we still need about 12 tall kitchen dishpak boxes. If you know of anyone that may have some, please contact Mary Lehman at 399-0707.
