∴ SHARON’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
The Women of Quail Creek celebrated a significant milestone on March 18 — that of our 20th anniversary. Preparation included many Programs Committee planning sessions, centerpieces being assembled, remarks and toasts written, and reservations being taken.
We remember with gratitude founders Joy O’Farrell, Joann Street, Carolyn Ireland, Suellen Vatter, and Jan Howard (pictured), who held their first meeting of the organization they simply called The Women of Quail Creek in March of 2004. Forty women were in attendance. As of today our membership stands at 344.
Our founders’ vision of an organization that would provide opportunities for women residing in Quail Creek to socialize, to support each other, and to learn has expanded over the years to include a variety of philanthropic endeavors in the Green Valley, Sahuarita, and Santa Cruz Valley. Our members enjoy many opportunities to engage in social and charitable events.
With twenty years’ of growth has come change, and we have been very fortunate to have had strong leadership and dedicated volunteers to guide us as we have evolved. New ideas, technologies, and opportunities constantly challenge an organization both to learn from its experiences and to cultivate the flexibility necessary to adapt to the changing dynamics of its membership.
We have always been an organization run entirely by member volunteers willing to donate their time, talents, and energy year after year because they have found in TWOQC something that provides them friendship, joy and purpose. Each brings her own unique life experiences and expertise.
Without our volunteers, we would not be able to offer the tremendous variety of programs and activities we all enjoy, or to have as great a positive impact in our community as we do; without them, we wouldn’t exist. We value every single one of them.
On this special anniversary milestone, we salute all who came before us, those who are actively involved today, and those who will be our leaders and volunteers in the years to come. May we always keep the values upon which we were founded foremost in our minds in all the we do. May the greater good of the organization be the primary consideration in any decisions that must be made, and may we always work together with purpose, kindness, and respect. This special 20-year recap video presented at our 20th Anniversary Luncheon represents so many years of just about everything TWOQC (created by our Activities Coordinator, Lynne C).
∴ SCHOLARSHIPS ∴
We are excited to announce that the ”2024 Women of Quail Creek Scholarship Awards Night” will take place on May 8th at 6:30pm in the Madera Clubhouse Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public.
Scholarship Committee members are busy much of March and April evaluating scholarship applications, interviewing candidates, and making the final selections of who will be this year’s scholarship recipients. If you attended the Javelina Hoedown or contributed to the Scholarship Matching Fund, then you will not want to miss the awards night. This is your opportunity to meet the winners, hear their inspiring stories, and celebrate with them. Hope to see you there!
The Community Outreach team sends its sincere thank you to all TWOQC members, Critters Club members and the entire Quail Creek Community for their outstanding support for our drive to collect items for The Animal League of Green Valley. The generous monetary donations as well as food and supplies for dogs and cats will definitely help TALGV take care of the animals entrusted to their facility.
HONOR FLIGHT – On June 10-12 Honor Flight Southern Arizona (HFSAZ) will sponsor an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for 70 local veterans. HFSAZ will pay for the airline flight and other travel expenses for these veterans to experience a tour of the war memorials and be honored for their service to the country.
You have an opportunity to show your appreciation for these veterans’ sacrifices by participating in a military “mail call” which will be held for them during the tour orientation meeting on May 18.
Your mail call letters should express your appreciation for the military service of these veterans. Click this link to get some ideas on what to say and see some sample letters.
Letters can be handwritten or typed. You can provide the paper and envelopes for prepare up to 70 letters. Letter writing packets complete with paper and envelopes are also available from Carin Kaiser, TWOQC Honor Flight Project Leader. Please do not seal the envelopes.
Our goal is to collect 1,000 letters. Won’t you help us reach our goal? If you have any questions about the Honor Flight letters program, please contact carinkaiser@me.com.
Deadline for letters is April 22.
