FISHER HOUSE AT THE TUCSON VA HOSPITAL

The Fisher House Foundation constructs and supports “comfort homes” on military and VA grounds, enabling family members to be close by when a loved one is hospitalized. A Foundation representative will speak at noon on Thursday, March 19 at a no-host luncheon in the Fiesta Room at the Grill. The Green Valley Military Officers Association is donating $1,000 towards a Fisher House on the Tucson VA Hospital grounds. Other donations will be welcomed. For more information or to make luncheon reservations, please call Thelma Hendicks at 399-0425. Deadline to sign-up for the luncheon is March 16.

Ben's bellBEN’S BELLS COMING
TO GREEN VALLEY

Several years ago, we had Jeannette Maré, founder of Ben’s Bells, speak to our group and several of us went to the Ben’s Bells HQ in Tucson where we painted ceramic pieces that went on to the Ben’s Bells wind chimes.

  • Ben’s Bells, whose mission is to spread acts of kindness in communities, is coming to Green Valley Village, 101 S. La Canada, Suite B, on Saturday, March 21 (HomeSmart Pros Real Estate office)
  • You can drop by anytime between 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. to sculpt or paint components for the bells
  • No reservations or artistic ability needed!
  • Hot dogs & iced tea provided by 19th Hole Bar & Grille
  • Visit www.bensbells.org or call (520) 404-3391 for more details

BABY SHOWER (NOAH’S ARK THEME)Noah__s_Ark___Animated_by_Mirz123

It looks like we will have 29 moms-to-be coming to the shower on April 18 with 30 babies. That is 5 more than we anticipated. Thirteen of the moms are members of the military so we are hoping to be able to get them ready for their new babies in a big way. Since we had been planning for 25, we find we are short some items for the Mom’s bags. In particular, to even out the bags, we need:

  • 16 necklaces
  • 3 loofahs/net scrubbies
  • 19 bottles of nail polish
  • 7 lip balms
  • 24 pocket-sized tissues
  • 15 nail file kits/emery boards

But any gift you think would make a new mom feel good as she pampers herself would be appreciated. If you can help in any way, please take your donations to Laura Colbert at 2040 E Cypress Canyon Dr. Questions, please contact Laura at 625-4033.

More importantly, we need more items for the babies, especially clothing, receiving blankets, burp cloths. Cash donations will be used to buy diapers, wipes and other baby necessities. Donations for the babies may be taken to Pam Rodgers’ house at 2640 E Sawyer Road. There are also boxes at the Anza Fitness Center and the Madera clubhouse where donations can be dropped.

TWOQC Pink Shirt_March2015TWOQC POLO SHIRTS

Shirts have been ordered but if you find you want one to wear on the field trip on March 31, please let me know ASAP so I can get the order in. The shirts are $18 and come in sizes Small to 2XX. I found they run small but since they are a blend, they do not shrink.

HONOR FLIGHTclipart_HonorFlight_logo

The next Honor Flight for World War II veterans will take place on April 18. At this time we are asking for letters thanking the WWII veterans for their service. Would the USA be the great place that it is if it weren’t for the sacrifices that these men and women made for our country? Here is the list as we know it right now. You might want to start the letters and add the names of the veterans later, just in case there are changes to this list—as can happen when the veterans are in this age group.

Those highlighted in green are from Green Valley. There is one female going highlighted in pink. Since there are so many veterans going on this charter flight, perhaps a group of you can get together for a letter writing party to make sure all of those traveling to see their monument get a couple letters. Or at least let’s focus on those living in Green Valley. Letters can be turned in to Kay Robinson at 898 Kenneth Drive or left at the Concierge desk. Please note that William M (highlighted in green) is the father-in-law of our 1st Vice President for Membership, Carol Mutter. As a reservist, he was also called up to serve in the Korean War. Since he served in two wars, perhaps we can shower him with letters from our club.

If you need a cookbook, please contact me at pjmcgee@cox.net and I will make arrangements to get it to you. Just $15 each.

OVERSEAS COUPON PROJECTsmileymakescouponangels

The next coupon clipping party will be Friday, March 27, at 9 a.m. the Connell sisters’ house, 539 Ramos Lane. You will be finished by noon. Please help if you can spare a couple hours. Or in the meantime, stop by their house to see if there are any coupons to be clipped. When I checked on Wednesday afternoon, there were several booklets that needed to be clipped. Coupons to be sent overseas in March should expire February 15 or later. Those for the National Guard should expire April 20 or later.

Thanks for all you do to support the club’s causes and make us look really great. We are even listed at the Sales Office as an organization that helps others rather than just as a QC club. You all deserve a big pat on the back for making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
