BOOKIN’ IT INTO SUMMER!
Touch the Future – Give a Child a Book
A book drive for the students at the San Xavier Mission School in Tucson is being organized by a special committee of TWOQC members, chaired by Sharon Pulcinella, Programs Director.
The school serves 83 students in grades K – 8; most are living below poverty level on the reservation. These children have very few possessions, and books are rarely among them.
Our goal is to get 2 books into the hands of every student before they begin summer break on May 29th. We are soliciting books from our Quail Creek and Green Valley neighbors and reaching out to our friends as well.
Would you consider purchasing a book for one of these children? We are asking especially for donations for the students in grades 6 – 8, as there are more of them than in the younger elementary group, but would be grateful for any donation you would like to make.
Beginning on April 12th and ending on April 30th, there will be “Book Giving Tree” displays in the Madera Clubhouse Library, the CATC building, and in The Book Shop at 231B W. Esperanza Blvd. in Green Valley.
These “trees” will have tags attached with requests for books appropriate for different age groups. You can buy a book (or two), then place the tag inside the book and leave it at one of the locations noted above. Please consider supporting a local small business by making your purchases at The Book Shop. The owner has an excellent selection of children’s books and can help you make an appropriate choice.
If you choose to order a book on-line, you may have it shipped directly to Sharon Pulcinella at 664 Pebbles Ridge Drive. Need suggestions? E-mail Sharon at programs@womenqc.com.
Finally, if you prefer making a contribution by check, please make it out to TWOQC and write “Book Drive” on the memo line. You may mail your check to Sharon at the address given above.
The San Xavier teachers will see that the books get to just the right child. Thanks for helping us to get these children bookin’ it into summer!
