EMPTY BOWLS
The annual Empty Bowls fund raiser to support the many programs offered by Valley Assistance Services will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S. Camino Del Sol. Tickets for the 11 a.m. and noon seatings may be purchased at the door. There are no more tickets available for the 10 a.m. seating. Your $15 donation gets you a delicious bowl of soup made by one of the local restaurants and a keepsake ceramic bowl, many of which were crafted by members of the QC Ceramics Club. There will be many raffle baskets too.
Right now we have 28 moms-to-be coming to the shower on April 18 with 29 babies. Thirteen of the moms are members of the military so we are hoping to be able to get them ready for their new babies in a big way.
Since we had been planning for 25, we find we are short some items for the Moms’ bags. In particular, to even out the bags, we need:
But any gift you think would make a new mom feel good as she pampers herself would be appreciated.
If you can help in any way, please take your donations to Laura Colbert at 2040 E Cypress Canyon Dr. Questions, please contact Laura at 625-4033.
More importantly, we need more items for the babies, especially clothing, receiving blankets, burp cloths. Cash donations will be used to buy diapers, wipes and other baby necessities. Checks should be made payable to TWOQC Charity Account. Donations for the babies may be taken to Pam Rodgers’ house at 2640 E Sawyer Road. There are also boxes at the Anza Fitness Center and the Madera Clubhouse where donations can be dropped.
The next coupon clipping party will be Friday, March 27, at 9 a.m. at the Connell sisters’ house, 539 Ramos Lane. You will be finished by noon. Please help if you can spare a couple hours. Or in the meantime, stop by their house to see if there are any coupons to be clipped. Coupons to be sent overseas in March should expire February 15 or later. Those for the National Guard should expire April 20 or later.
Shirts have been ordered but if you find you want one, please let me know ASAP so I can get the order in. Can’t guarantee that they will be ready by the 31st but I will try. The shirts are $18 and come in sizes Small to 2XX. I found they run small but since they are a blend, they do not shrink.
BEN’S BELLS COMING TO GREEN VALLEY
Several years ago, Jeannette Maré, founder of Ben’s Bells, spoke to our club and several of us went to the Ben’s Bells in Tucson where we painted ceramic pieces that went on to the Ben’s Bells wind chimes. The next Honor Flight for World War II veterans will take place on April 18. TWOQC member Laurie Brown is going to be a guardian on this flight, the last one until the fall. We are asking for letters thanking the WWII veterans for their service. Here is the list as we know it right now—no changes from last week. You might want to start the letters and add the names of the veterans later, just in case there are changes to this list—as can happen when the veterans are in this age group.
Those highlighted in green are from Green Valley. There is one female on this trip highlighted in pink. Since there are so many veterans going on this charter flight, perhaps a group of you can get together for a letter writing party to make sure all of those traveling to DC to see their monument get a couple letters. Or at least let’s focus on those living in Green Valley. Letters can be turned in to Kay Robinson at 898 Kenneth Drive or left at the Concierge desk. Please put each letter in an envelope with the veteran’s name on it. If the letter is for any veteran, do not address the envelope and the organizers will take care of it.
Please note that William M (highlighted in green) is the father-in-law of our 1st Vice President for Membership, Carol Mutter. As a reservist after WWII, he was also called up to serve in the Korean War. Since he served in two wars, perhaps we can shower him with letters from our club.
A cookbook would make a nice hostess gift if you are going to someone’s house for Easter dinner.
If you need a cookbook, please contact me at pjmcgee@cox.net and I will make arrangements to get it to you. Just $15 each.
Thank you to the following members who sold cookbooks at the Discover Quail Creek event:
Thanks for all you do to support the club’s causes and make us look really great. You all deserve a big pat on the back for making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Check out Thank You! on our website to see the latest thank you letters the club has received: Thank You letters.
