COUPON CLIPPING PARTY TODAY
Coupon clipping party is today, June 26, at 9 a.m. at the Connell sisters’ house, 539 Ramos Lane. You will be finished by noon. Please help if you can spare a couple hours. Great snacks too thanks to the hostesses.
A big thank you to Lois and Janet Connell who have kept the program going for the past 3 years, opening their house to monthly coupon clipping parties and separating all the coupons for the National Guard.
Thanks to Peggy Richmond who has volunteered take over the coupon program for Unit 23. Also thanks to Judy Poffenbarger who has offered to manage the coupons for Unit 11 and to take over the accounting aspect of the overseas coupon program. Is anyone from any of the other units willing to assume the project for their unit? If so, please call Lois or Janet at 300-4135.
GENESIS HOUSE
Patti O’Berry, founder of Genesis House for victims of abuse in the local area, addressed the board at our meeting this week. She talked about all the work that is being done to help domestic violence victims and said they were trying to raise another $5K to pay off their second mortgage. It was TWOQC to the rescue when we presented her with a check for $6K, our cookbook proceeds to date.
Our efforts are very much appreciated. Thanks to all who worked on the cookbook as well as those who purchased books.
FLORIST FOAM
Thanks to those who donated the florist foam for the decorations for our luncheon on June 29. We now have all that we need.
SUMMER LUNCHEON
For those of you who have purchased tickets for the summer luncheon, please remember to wear western garb or something patriotic. Please consider bringing a donation of food or household products for our annual collection for the National Guard. Cash or checks payable to GV MOAA Military Assistance are acceptable too. MOAA will send a receipt. Bar opens at 11:30. Business meeting at 12:15 with luncheon being served starting at 12:30.
Cookbooks will be on sale on June 29 from 10:30 – 12:15 in the Madera lobby. Only $15, with all proceeds going to Genesis House for victims of domestic abuse in the local area.
YARN
Someone has donated yarn that will be ideal for making hats, scarves, socks for the homeless veterans when we hold our clothing drive in the fall—date TBD but probably late October or early November. It will be available for the taking in the back of the ballroom prior to our luncheon meeting on June 29. If you can’t make the luncheon on June 29 and would like to get some yarn to get started on knitting projects, please contact me at pjmcgee@cox.net and I will gladly show you what I have.
TOILETRIES FOR HOMELESS VETERANS
If you have any unopened travel sized toiletries that you will not be using, please consider donating them to the homeless veterans.
Just bring them to the meeting on June 29 and leave them at the back of the ballroom. They would also appreciate sunscreen and Chapstick. The latest letter we received from the VA for our donations is under Thank You, 2015.
CALENDARS FOR HOSPITALIZED VETERANS
If you start to receive 2016 calendars (I got my first one yesterday), please don’t throw them in the trash. The hospitalized veterans at the Tucson VA Hospital really appreciate them.
You may bring calendars, greeting cards and note pads to any of our meetings and I will get them to the VA.
