COFFEE ANYONE?
Did you ever wonder what makes that really great cup of coffee so special? Have you noticed that some coffee tastes different than others or that some flavors are more pronounced in coffees you sample? The July program for The Women of Quail Creek will help solve those mysteries and many more.
Anna Perreira, CEO and Founder of Yellow Brick Coffee, will present Passionate for Coffee July 25 at 6:30 pm in the Madera Clubhouse Ballroom. Founded in 2011, Yellow Brick Coffee is a specialty coffee roastery-cafe based in Tucson. Anna has traveled the world searching for single-origin, specialty coffees. She develops special relationships with the growers of small, high quality farms that may be overlooked by other roasters. The harvested beans are then shipped to Tucson where Anna and co-owner David Perreira develop individual roasting profiles to bring out the unique flavors and characteristics of each coffee.
Known for her passion for coffee and her desire to expand people’s enjoyment of the coffee experience, Anna will share information about her travels, the roasting and cupping process for coffee, and tips for brewing your own best cup. She even plans to bring samples to share! And, of course, there will be door prizes from Yellow Brick Coffee as well. For more information about Yellow Brick Coffee, consult their website, www.yellowbrickcoffee.com, or visit the roastery and coffee shop at 3220 S. Dodge Blvd.
Collections/Donations FOR THE TROOPS
Thanks again to all who contributed to the Food for the Troops collection this year. In the end, we gave 371 lbs. of groceries to the Air National Guard. Santa Eric donated 243 lbs. of cereal, cake mixes, Mac N Cheese and juices. Peggy received another monetary donation from a TWOQC member so our total was $150. The lucky winner of the 50-50 raffle was our own Sylvia Perry.
Thanks also to all who clipped, sorted and counted the coupons for the National Guard. Peggy delivered the coupons to Barbara Gavre just in time for their drill weekend. Everyone clipped, sorted and counted $5,185.41 worth of coupons for the National Guard. For those with arthritis in their hands, that is a real labor of love!
- Coupons sent to the Japan Naval base for June totaled $3,506.
- Coupons for both overseas bases totaled $84,273 for the first six months of 2016.
- Grand total for the coupon project since inception = $1,479,425!
BABY ITEMS FOR HOMELESS VETERANS
Peggy received the following thank you note from one of the case workers at the VA for the baby basket she delivered last week.
“I’m writing to thank you for the beautiful items my Veteran’s grandson received. She was thrilled with the items. They (the Veteran and her daughter) were so happy to get the diapers, they “ooh’d and ahh’d” over the clothing, they giggled about the toys. They said, and I quote, “This restores my faith in humanity” and “This is like Christmas”. The little guy turns one next month and they will give him some of the toys on his birthday. It was so fun to be able to deliver such a thoughtful package. I have young children myself and I was personally deeply touched by the care and thoughtfulness of this beautiful gift. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
