JUNE SUMMER LUNCHEON & FASHION SHOW
We are looking to have a great time at the luncheon on Monday. Doors and bar open at 11:00. Program will begin at 11:30. Thank you to all who made reservations.
♥ RED, WHITE and BLUE ♥
The Tombstone «VIGILETTES» from Tombstone, Arizona will present vintage fashions from old Arizona. There will be a table outside the ballroom door on Monday for donations for the troops in the 162nd Fighter Wing. Items on their wish list include: Chef Boyardee products; breakfast bars; Pop Tarts; chicken noodle, vegetable beef, tomato soups; Hamburger/Tuna Helper; peanut butter and jelly; pasta sauce; and snacks. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Is your photo among the 200+ member headshots in the «TWOQC ONLINE PHOTOBOOK»? If not, Monday is the perfect opportunity to have your photo taken so you will be included. Eileen, TWOQC photographer, will be available to take your headshot. If you will not be at the luncheon or you have a headshot that you would like to use (Jpeg format), you may forward that to «webmaster@womenqc.com».
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Clothing Drive Committee is looking for volunteers, both male and female, to help with the clothing drive on Saturday, October 21. This is a very short-term commitment. If you can help, please contact Laura at «clothingdrive@womenqc.com» or 520-625-4033. There will be a sign-up sheet on the Homeless Veterans table at the rear of the ballroom on June 26.
WOMEN-IN-TRANSITION SCHOLARSHIP
The Women of Quail Creek Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that Jasmine Spear, a Sahuarita resident, will receive the Women-In-Transition $1,000 Scholarship Award. Jasmine is a 33-year old mother of three who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Health. Although only a part time student, the scholarship will enable her to take additional classes to complete her degree in 2019. Jasmine’s special interest is working with teenagers by volunteering much of her time to nurture and guide them. Jasmine will join us for lunch on Monday where you will hear more of her inspiring story.
Reminder: The Oktoberfest event on October 29 will be the major fundraising event for the Scholarship Committee. Please save the date!

YOTO – SIMPLE RECIPES NEEDED
The TWOQC YOTO Committee is still collecting recipes to create a cookbook for YOTO students. They need recipes that are easy to follow and are non-cook or require only a microwave. All recipes with simple ingredients will be considered for inclusion but we know that the following items are always available in the YOTO pantry: «FOOD LIST»
Please submit you recipes to «yotocookbook@womenqc.com» by July 1.
PINK TWOQC SHIRTS
TWOQC polo shirts will be available for purchase at $20 prior to the luncheon on June 26. Cash or checks payable to TWOQC only.
HOMELESS AND HOSPITALIZED VETS
Donations for the veterans may be placed on the table at the back of the ballroom on June 26.
Hospitalized veterans’ needs: Books, playing cards, puzzle books, note cards and greeting cards. No more 2017 calendars, please.
Homeless veterans’ needs: Unopened travel sized toiletries, toothpaste and brushes, razors and shaving cream, sun screen, water, snack bars, disposable plates, cups and utensils—packages may be opened. There is a desperate need for men’s and women’s underwear in all sizes. Underpants must be new. Undershirts and bras can be gently used.
Babies’ needs: Baby girl is due in early August. We have Mom’s bag and a basket with some items but need diapers, wipes and clothing that can be gently used. Jumpers, high chairs, portable cribs/playpens, car seats are always welcomed.
Pet needs: Food, bedding, leashes, water dishes, toys, litter.
FEMALE HOMELESS VETERANS
The VA is currently not accepting any female attire due to space limitations. Please do not leave any more bags/boxes of ladies clothing at Peggy McGee’s house. Once the VA is able to accept ladies items, an announcement will be made.
“The Colors of Cancer” 2018 FASHION SHOW
February 2018 will bring the Fashion Show Luncheon with proceeds being donated for the American Cancer Society. Each type of cancer has a ribbon of a certain color to represent it. For example, cervical cancer is represented by a teal and white ribbon. This cancer has been reduced by 50% during the last 40 years, but still 12,820 women were diagnosed in 2016. There is so much work yet to be done and that is one reason our fundraiser for cancer is so special.
Please contact Carol Shelton at «fashionshow@womenqc.com» and let her know if you would like to volunteer for this awesome cause. She is currently looking for someone to assist with co-chair duties.
HONOR FLIGHT #23 – Coming in September
Tucson’s Honor Flight #23 honoring 75 veterans with an all expense paid trip to Washington DC in September includes a surprise keepsake on the return flight — Mail Call — much like the mail call that kept their spirits alive during the war.
- Trip’s focus includes thanking our veterans for their service & sacrifice with a tour of the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Wall built in their honor.
- Please consider writing to our veterans taking this flight. The first 25 names may be accessed from this «LINK». Please include their first name and last initial on the envelope and do not seal the envelope due to last-minute changes.
- The next 50 names are not available yet. You may address your letters to “Dear Hero” or “Dear Veteran”.
- Bring all letters to the July 31st TWOQC program for Kay Robinson.
Questions? Use the online «CONTACT US» form. September’s flight details will be announced once released by «HonorFlightsAZ.org».
