President’s Message: What is the Future of TWOQC?
You hear a lot right now about the “new normal”. I suspect we all define that a little differently. As we head into the coming months, we will all be much more conscious of distance, greetings, personal space and health, both our own and that of others.
Where we go from here is on the minds of the TWOQC Leadership team as well. We had started talking about small group gatherings even before the COVID-19 outbreak. Those discussions have become much more important now and in coming weeks we will be seeking your input about activities that appeal to you.
The Board is also discussing how we might need to change our approach to some of our favorite activities such as luncheons, gatherings for programs, or gatherings for charitable support. We have been meeting via Zoom and testing out some of the new ways we might interact. We would appreciate your thoughts about our future. Feel free to share your thoughts by emailing president@womenqc.com.
Programs: On Hold for Now
TWOQC programs are on hold for the foreseeable future to protect us all from passing or getting COVID-19.
Youth On Their Own: Designer Face Masks
A HUGE thank you to all who donated masks for the students of Youth On Their Own (YOTO). We supplied over 300 masks for the students.
Tired of your old mask? In need of a new mask? Have the itch to buy something new?
BOY, DO WE HAVE A DEAL FOR YOU! One can get a mask and help YOTO. Mask wearing may be present for a long time to come so the YOTO Committee of TWOQC and volunteers are making masks available for friends, neighbors, and relatives. In lieu of a charge, we are requesting a donation to TWOQC that will be used exclusively to support YOTO. Detailed information may be found HERE which includes a display of 22 fun designer masks to choose from! You will be asked to include your name & phone number, number of masks requested, type of mask (if designer mask, provide Design #), and preference for elastic or ties. You will be contacted when the masks are ready for pickup. Please send inquiries to 2qcladies@gmail.com.
Clothing Drive in October
Mark Your Calendar: October 17, 2020
It’s time again, as you clean out those closets, to think about donating to TWOQC 2020 VA Homeless Clothing and Household Goods Drive.
This drive supports the needs of the VA Homeless Services. As per their request, we will be collecting ONLY MEN’S FALL AND WINTER CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. So, please bag them up and hang onto those for us until October! All women’s clothing and men’s summer clothing can be taken to our wonderful local charities as soon as they reopen. Go to our website under the Charitable Committees tab and look at the Clothing Drive for a complete list of items that will be collected.
Your donations are greatly appreciated, and tax receipts will be available at the event and online. Questions to clothingdrive@womenqc.com.
2021 Fashion Show: It Can Be Done!
Want to get involved in this worthwhile cause and have fun at the same time? Planning for our 2021 event is underway and we need YOUR help.
Honor a survivor or loved one lost to cancer, help save lives of people in our local community and around the world. It only takes a little time to do a lot of good.
We have several volunteer opportunities available this year and are happy to help find one that matches your unique talents and interests. We look forward to having you join our fun team!
Winter visitors are welcomed to volunteer and need not attend Spring/Summer meetings to participate (if we even have any!). Meetings will be scheduled once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact Paula (fashionshow@womenqc.com) and Lisa (Johnson333@cox.net).
New and Notable
Of special note, I want to mention two things we have recently discovered but not shared with the membership at large. Ginny Hutchison has been keeping a record of TWOQC’s contributions to the American Cancer Society since partnering with Relay for Life to hold the February Fashion Show. Beginning in 2015, TWOQC’s contribution totals just shy of $75,000.
The combined efforts of members of the TWOQC Military Baby Shower committee, the Quail Creek Quilt Covey and a whole lot of others who belong to neither group, created masks for distribution to Quail Creek residents, local health care providers, local organizations serving those in need and our local National Guard. The residents of Quail Creek were so thankful to have these handmade gems that they have donated approximately $14,000 to support current and future baby shower needs.
Connecting With Our Community
HOMELESS AND HOSPITALIZED VETERANS
As you continue to organize your drawers or purses and find any non-prescription reading glasses that are no longer appropriate for you, please hold on to them for the VA. They are used by both hospitalized and homeless veterans.
