HONOR FLIGHT

Thanks to those who have written letters to the World War II veterans who are going on the Honor Flight that leaves on April 18.

If you still have letters to turn in, please contact Kay Robinson at 495-4173. Mark your calendars for Monday, April 20, at 4 PM. All are invited to the US Airways Departure lounge at the Tucson International Airport (TIA) from 4-6 p.m. when the veterans flying airplaneand their guardians return. Please use either Hourly or Economy Parking. Bring the parking ticket to the counter and the airport may be able to validate it—that is TIA’s way of saying “thank you” for supporting local Vets.

0157 babyBABY SHOWER

Thanks to all who have been working so hard on the shower—tomorrow is the big day. Without the support of so many who have knitted, crocheted, quilted and sewn, shopped or gave monetary donations, this year’s shower could not have become a reality. The shower committee, led by Pam Rodgers, has devoted many hours to make this shower the best yet.

NICKNAMES

Ellen Sussman, reporter for the Green Valley News, is writing an article about nicknames.

If you had an unusual nickname as a child (or better yet, even now), please contact Ellen at ellen2414@cox.net.

You might even find the history of your name in the paper!

APRIL MEETING

Our April 27 meeting at 6:30 p.m. will feature Karen Pomroy, Founder of Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary. Attendees will learn the heartwarming story of Gulliver, the mascot and symbol for the sanctuary, a spirited horse that Karen rescued in 2004 and brought back from sickness to health. Her success with rehabilitating Gulliver and other wild horses inspired Karen to start the Amado sanctuary. Anyone with a love of horses, or any other animals for that matter, will be touched by her presentation.

If you are shopping next week, please consider picking up some extra groceries for the Green Valley/Sahuarita Food Bank. Even though the annual Feinstein Challenge fell through, the Food Bank found a group people who will match donations. Peanut butter, paper, cleaning, baby and hygiene items would make Food Bank customers very happy. You will also be able to make cash/check/credit card donations at the meeting. Checks should be made payable to Green Valley Community Food Bank.

A_Shared_Table_cookbook.coverCOOKBOOKS

If you need a hostess gift for family or friends as you head for cooler locations, a cookbook would make a nice gesture and show those who don’t live here what great cooks we have in our community.

If you need a cookbook, please contact me at pjmcgee@cox.net and I will make arrangements to get it to you. Just $15 each.

clipart_Coupon-animatedCOUPON CLIPPING PARTY

The next coupon clipping party will be held at 9 a.m. on April 24 at the Connell sisters’ house, 539 Ramos Lane. You will be finished by noon. There are lots of coupons to be clipped, so please stop by their house and pick up some books to clip and sort. They had over $50.5K worth of coupons last month to send overseas.

Recycle_Sign_AnimatedRECYCLING FIND

I am a true recycling advocate and found a place that takes old shoes, old clothing, and old linens and breaks them down into a usable textile. The items can be in disrepair, have stains. The goal is to keep them out of the landfill. Items can be turned in at one of the Savers Thrift Stores in Tucson.

For more information about Savers Thrift Stores, visit their website at www.savers.com/. Thrift Store Cycle at Savers:  www.savers.com/thrift-store-cycle.aspx.

To those who will be leaving us for the summer, safe travels. Thanks for all your support for our programs and projects while you were with us.
