THE COUNTDOWN IS HERE!
TWOQC Transition Scholarship deadline was May 30. The committee received applications from women who need financial support to either begin a course of study or continue an accredited program. They are women who are 21 years or older, and who want to build a secure future for themselves. The applications are being reviewed on June 12 and three finalists will be interviewed on June 19. The awardee will be celebrated at our June 26th luncheon.
THANK YOU for your donations to TWOQC Scholarship Program. Because of your generosity we are able to help a woman make significant progress towards achieving her goals and improving her future.

HONOR FLIGHT #23
Honor Flight #23 out of Tucson will be honoring 75 veterans with an all expense paid trip to Washington DC to visit the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Wall built in their honor. The trip focus is about thanking our veterans for their sacrifice and service they made so many years ago for the freedoms we enjoy today. Waiting for them on the return flight is another surprise – Mail Call – the same kind of mail call that kept their spirits alive during the war. For many of the veterans mail call is the highlight of their day of honor but is also a valuable and tangible keepsake of their trip.
The first 25 names may be accessed from this «LINK». The next 50 are not available as yet. However, you may address your letters to “Dear Hero.” Please include their first name and last initial on the envelope and do not seal the envelope due to last-minute changes. You may want to include a couple of extra letters to “Dear Veteran.” Please bring all letters to the July 31st TWOQC program for Kay Robinson or you may deliver them to Kay’s home at 898 N. Kenneth Drive no later than August 15. «map»

VETERANS NEEDS
Homeless Veterans: Thanks to all who donated ladies clothing for the Stand-Down for Homeless Veterans on June 13. The items are greatly appreciated by the organizers. If anyone wants a receipt for tax purposes, please contact Peggy at pjmcgee@cox.net.
New moms/moms-to-be: One homeless veteran (who has since been moved into housing) had a baby boy last week. Thanks to the White Elephant and items left over from the baby shower, we were able to provide a nice layette to the new mom. The second is due in early August and is expecting a girl. We have some items for her as well plus a basket, but could use diapers, wipes and clothing. Clothing can be gently used. If you had purchased items like jumpers, high chairs, portable cribs or playpens, car seats and your grandchildren have outgrown them, please consider donating them to the VA for the homeless moms.
Experience has shown that many homeless veterans bring pets to the Stand-Down. For many, their pet is the only “family” they have. If you would like to donate pet supplies: food, bedding, leashes, water dishes, toys, litter, please contact Peggy. She must have the items by Sunday evening since she will be taking them to Tucson Monday morning. If anyone has any of the listed items, they may be dropped off at Peggy McGee’s house, 1908 E Longspur Place. «map»
If you are traveling to beat the heat, please bring home any unopened toiletries you might get in hotels. They may be brought to the luncheon on June 26.
Hospitalized Veterans: The VA said we had given them enough 2017 calendars to last through the summer. When you start receiving those unsolicited 2018 calendars in the mail, please save any you cannot use for the VA.
SAVE THE DATE – Clothing Drive for Homeless Veterans
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 21. That’s the day of the annual clothing drive for homeless veterans. As the date gets closer, we will let you know about their specific needs.
