A Celebration of Women – Monday, April 30 · 6:30pm
Please join us this Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom at the Madera Clubhouse to honor our Scholarship recipients. This presentation is open to the general public.
Please read the additional opportunities to help the Community (some on Monday night):
Buy Your June Luncheon Tickets
We will be selling tickets ($20 members; $25 non-members) for the June 25 “A Wee Bit Irish” luncheon just prior to this Monday night’s special scholarship program, “A Celebration of Women”.
Come a bit early and pick up your tickets for our June luncheon which will include a rousing Irish dance presentation by the award-winning Celtic Steps of Tucson.
2018 Spring Honor Flight #24
This Spring’s Honor Flight leaves Tucson International Airport on May 12th with honored Veterans and their chaperones. Details are on this flyer.
Only three more days to write letters to the 23 Veterans on this Honor Flight. As on all flights, a “mail call” of letters and notes will be delivered on the flight home. Please consider writing a note to each veteran with just a simple “Thanks for your service” or something more. Every note makes a big difference to these veterans. Please deliver your notes & letters to Kay Robinson, 898 N. Kenneth Drive by April 30.
2018 Baby Shower for Military Families
Three weeks to go! Please consider a donation of new baby clothing – outfits and onesies (3 mos to 12 mos sizes). Our 30 babies (29 moms) will be overjoyed with everything they receive. Our donation boxes are still located in the Madera Clubhouse lobby (for another 2 weeks) and at the Krieg residence (2680 E. Sawyer Road). Not sure what to donate but want to help? Checks (made payable to TWOQC-Charity Account, “Baby Shower” on memo line) can be left at the QC Concierge Desk or at the Krieg residence.
Got Boxes? We Need ‘Em
If you have small to medium-size cardboard moving boxes that you could donate to the Homeless Veterans’ Clothing Drive we would sure appreciate getting them.
Most in demand are the smaller (approximately 16”x 12”) boxes, broken down to lie flat, but boxes a bit larger (also flattened) are also welcome.
Please call Pat Neel at (520) 625-4476 if you can help out.
VA Homeless Services Need Your Donations
Before you head out for the summer, please consider going through your closets as the VA Homeless Program is in need of summer clothing, i.e., shorts, light weight tops, sandals, shoes, and more for both men and women… all in good, clean, usable condition, please.
Drop off at Laura Colbert’s at 2040 E. Cypress Canyon Drive or Peggy McGee’s at 1908 E. Longspur Place. If you want a receipt for tax purposes, please leave a note with your donation to include name, address, phone number and value of donated items. Peggy will turn in the form when she takes the items to the VA.
Your donations are greatly appreciated by these veterans who have served our nation.
TWOQC Member Spotlight: Marianne Cobarrubias

June 2015 Summer Luncheon “Celebrate”
Born into a large family (the eldest of 7), Marianne was raised in the Midwest. She lived most of her adult life in San Francisco’s East Bay with exception of 14 years on Boston’s Northshore. Her background is marketing and public relations, and her hobby-turned-2nd career eventually became web design and computer tutoring.
Marianne and her husband of 41 years, Frank, selected several “where to retire” areas around the country before discovering Quail Creek in 2005. They built in 2006 and settled into their home in 2007.
For many years Marianne enjoyed sewing and crafts but discovered the art of quilting when they moved to Quail Creek. She also enjoys reading, hiking, her almost daily bike rides, and cheering on her favorite NBA team (win!).
Many of Marianne’s volunteer activities revolve around the Quail Creek community. She joined The Women of Quail Creek (TWOQC) in 2007 and co-chaired the organization’s first fundraising project in 2009 (A Taste of Quail Creek cookbook). Marianne has been TWOQC’s Webmaster since 2013 and serves as Social Media Administrator for the organization’s Facebook page which she launched in 2014. And since 2010, she has been a member of the volunteer team for the monthly Quail Creek Bingo games.
Marianne and her husband look forward to their time in Flagstaff during late Spring to early Fall.
