HOMELESS VETERANS NEED YOUR DONATIONS
Have you been putting off cleaning out your closets? What about your kitchen cabinets and linen closet? Now is the time to get busy and help homeless veterans with items you no longer wear or use.
On Saturday morning, October 20th, The Women of Quail Creek will hold its annual clothing and household goods drive for homeless veterans from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the parking lot between the Creative Arts & Technology Building and Madera Clubhouse.
Volunteers will be accepting cold weather clothing. Please make sure your donations are new or gently used, clean and in good repair. Small household items, linens and travel size toiletries are also needed.
All donations are appreciated, but there will be no pre-inventory or storage of donations before the event. If you are unable to bring your items to the October drive or you are leaving town before the event, ask a neighbor or friend to store and deliver them. Questions? Contact Anne Smith at clothingdrive@womenqc.com.
BOXES… BOXES… BOXES
If you have small to medium-sized boxes (approximately 16” X 12”), we are eagerly collecting them now for donated items at the Clothing Drive, October 20th. We will gladly pick up your flattened boxes for storage until the event.
To donate boxes, please call Pat Neel (520) 625-4476, Bobbi Gordon (520) 625-9353 or Mary Lehman (520) 399-0707. Thanks for helping out!
Please consider supporting the Sahuarita High School Naval JROTC unit tomorrow (Saturday, August 11 from 8-11 a.m.) when they will hold a car wash (exteriors only) at the American Legion Post 66, 1560 W. Duval Mine Road.
There is no set fee but donations are gratefully accepted. The cadets will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting for us at the VA Clothing Drive on October 20 so supporting this project could be our way of saying “thanks”. UPDATE (8/11 · 1pm) – thank you to those who came to the car wash!
The September 22nd Honor Flight to Washington DC will include 23 men and women. Please consider writing to the 23 veterans on the Honor Flight to thank them for their service and commitment to our freedom. The letters or notes of any length are distributed during “Mail Call” on the return flight from Washington DC.
Here’s the LIST of veterans scheduled for this flight if you wish to write personalized notes. Writing “to a Veteran” or “to a Hero” is okay. THIS LINK offers a few examples to help get you started. Please deliver the letters/notes in unsealed envelopes to Kay Robinson, 898 N Kenneth Drive by September 11th. Thank you for honoring the veterans.
NEW MEMBER’S WELCOME PARTY
What better way to spend a hot summer afternoon than at the New Member’s Welcome Party held on August 2nd. Twenty-five ladies gathered at Angie’s Werner’s home to learn fun and interesting facts about each other and what brought them to Quail Creek. TWOQC Board and Committee Chairs explained the organization’s mission and discussed various charitable volunteer opportunities. Cool drinks, tasty munchies, and many great stories made the event special.
Sixteen new members were honored and include: Becky Ashin, Roz Barnes, Patti Grant, Mary Grier, Barbara Harmon, Jadine Hilt, Jeanette Jarmin, Lisa Johnson, Carin Kaiser, Barbara Kowalski, Kristi Lane, Tootie Miller, Peggy Mykins, Suzanne Sicardi, Mary Smith, and Kathy Westerburg. Kudos to Angie Werner and Barb Hunsinger for planning and organizing this wonderful event. (PHOTOS by Eileen Sykora)
The next New Member’s Welcome Party is scheduled for Thursday, September 27 from 1:00-2:30. New members who joined in 2017 or 2018 and have not attended a welcome party are cordially invited. RSVP to Angie at (402) 309-5467 or membership@womenqc.com.
NEW MEMBERS MAKE A SPLASH AS VOLUNTEERS!
We are inspired and grateful for the contribution of our new members who have been greeters for our programs, helped out at our charity events, and even assumed the role of Fashion Show Committee Chair. What an inspiration!
Welcome to our newest member, Pam Hartwell-James.
Time to start practicing the polka so you will be ready for the Oktoberfest on October 14. All proceeds will be used for Scholarships to two local high school students as well as to Women-in-Transition. Tickets @$30 will go on sale at the program on August 27. They went fast last year so consider buying yours early. If you want to sit with friends, plan to buy all the tickets at one time. Cash or checks payable to TWOQC Charity Account.
The lucky winner selected from the entries received for the makeover presentation at the August program, “Skincare and Makeup Tips & Techniques for Women 50+“, is Diane Wilson.
Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry from last week’s Friday Morning Message. Congratulations, Diane!
