THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
1st Large Group Event in 2021
Mark your calendars for Monday, July 26 at 6:30pm. Our large membership events are back. Our featured speaker is Debra Kabinier, a professional genealogist. We will also have displays from members of our Genealogy group. If you’ve ever wondered about your ancestors, this will be a fun and informative presentation. It just might get you hooked!
Nomination Chair & Committee
It’s getting close to that time of year again. We need volunteers for the Nomination Committee. There are several positions on the Board coming up this year (President-Elect, Secretary, Community Outreach Director and Publicity Director). This is a short-term commitment, September – December. The Committee will work with Diane Gordon, President 2022, to find candidates to fill these open positions. We also need someone to Chair this Committee to coordinate its activities. Please contact Becky Ashin at 865-300-2791 or president@womenqc.com, if you are interested.
Photographer Needed
After many years of taking pictures for TWOQC, we are sorry to announce the retirement of Eileen Sykora. Thank you, Eileen, for the hundreds of pictures of our members and our gatherings over the years! We will miss your cheerfulness and enthusiasm.
If you love taking pictures, we need someone to be our official photographer. We need pictures of our group events (6 to 8 per year) and occasionally pictures of individual members. For more details, please contact Deb Melton, Director of Publicity, at publicity@womenqc.com.
Military Baby Shower
TWOQC would like to thank the MBS Committee for their many years of dedication to this endeavor. We are so pleased that this Committee has affiliated with Operation Homefront. We know this will allow this dedicated group of women to continue with the growing donation needs for our worthy military families.
Monthly Message
We need to make a tweak to the distribution date of the Monthly Message. It will now be published on the 20th of each month.
FUNDING & GIVING COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Funding & Giving Committee is holding its first Women of Quail Creek fundraising event for 2021. Raffle tickets for a Traeger Smoker/Grill PRO 575 model, wood pellet grill went on sale on July 12 at the Nat King Cole concert and will continue to be on sale at Quail Creek events. Additional sales will be at the July 26 membership meeting and at the Javelina Hoedown on October 9. Raffle tickets can also be purchased by contacting Sylvia Perry at 520-396-4388 or Nancy Jacobs at 970-946-3910. Raffle tickets are $10 each. The drawing will be on October 9 at the Javelina Hoedown.
The smoker is priced at $800 and will include a cover and an additional gift basket. This grill has WIFIRE technology, 6-in-1 versatility which allows you to smoke, bake, roast, and BBQ. Exciting Donation News
The restructuring of our charity fundraising practices under one cohesive Funding and Giving Committee paved the way for TWOQC to pursue 501(c)(3) status, which will provide us with multiple new opportunities for funding our charitable projects. Therefore, the Board approved the Funding and Giving Committee’s recommendation to pursue this status. We currently have some very talented new members who have tremendous experience with 501(c)(3) applications and management. We will keep you posted on the progress but we’re hoping to have this in place by the first of the year.

VA Clothing Drive
The VA has been contacted and they don’t need donations at this time. They are overwhelmed with clothes, small appliances, etc. We will not be holding a VA clothing drive in 2021. Peggy McGee at pjmcgee@cox.net will continue to take calendars and small items if you would like to contact her.

LOSS OF A LONG-TERM MEMBER
We are greatly saddened by the death of Margaret Morris, a long-time and very active member of the Scholarship Team. Amongst many different services she provided to TWOQC, Margaret served as the club’s 2nd Vice President/Membership for two years (January 2013 – December 2015).
To honor her memory, a Memorial Scholarship fund has been established in her name. Anyone who would like to contribute to the fund in Margaret’s name may direct funds to: Scholarship Team Leader, 2116 E. Madera Plateau Drive. You may drop off a donation (there’s a box outside the front door), or send by postal mail. Please make checks out to TWOQC and indicate Margaret Morris Memorial Scholarship in the memo line.
Margaret will be greatly missed, but we know that she would be pleased to be honored in a way that will benefit the future of one or more young women in our local community through access to higher education. Her husband, John will be notified of all gifts to the memorial fund.
