∴ PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE from JANET ∴

Anticipation. It’s a word we often associate with holidays, but lately I find myself anticipating our TWOQC Spring activities just as eagerly.  In just a few days, I look forward to seeing many of you at TWOQC’s Hawaiian-themed luncheon. I’m already anticipating the smiles, laughter and wonderful conversations we will share.

April’s programs are shaping up to be both fun and meaningful. I hope our members join me at the upcoming community-wide Honor Flight presentation. Spouses, neighbors and friends are invited to experience this one-of-a-kind program.

Also, our area is well known for its birding opportunities. If members share an interest or want to learn more, they won’t want to miss this program. Members-only programs may be found in TWOQC’s GroupSpot platform. Scroll down to the Members Section in this blog post for links to GroupSpot.

Have you had a chance to clear your closet of unwanted or gently used shoes? Thanks to the creativity of TWOQC’s Community Outreach team, those donations are being transformed into funding for a local cause in need. This is a welcomed opportunity for TWOQC members and our local community. [Community Outreach]

If you know a young woman who could benefit from a tuition scholarship, please encourage her to go to our website and complete an application. Our dedicated Scholarship committee is currently reviewing applications to aid approximately 27 deserving women continue their education. [Scholarships]

It’s shaping up to be a vibrant and inspiring spring season. I look forward to sharing it with all of our members.

Janet Shropshire
TWOQC President

∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴

Our generous community has donated 1,800 pairs of shoes since our official collection period began in February. We are expecting to exceed our goal of 2,000 pairs collected.

This program is a win/win. United Community Health Center’s Pediatric Dental and Behavioral Health Programs will receive the funds we receive from the shoe drive. Then, the shoes will be redistributed to micro-enterprise partners through Funds2Orgs. [We Need Your Shoes]

∴ SCHOLARSHIPS ∴

What is a Named Scholarship?

You may have heard the term Named Scholarship and wondered, ”What is that?”

A Named Scholarship is created when a person, or group of people, get together and donate a total of $3,500, which is the current amount needed to fund a full TWQOC Scholarship. They can then name it. It could be a Memorial Scholarship in honor of a loved one’s passing. For Example, The Steven J. Perry Memorial Scholarship. Or, to celebrate a special occasion such as a 50th Anniversary or other special occasion. Or, simply donated by a group who supports education and wants to help in this special way, such as The Meads Family Scholarship. Many have found that this is an especially significant way to honor a loved one.

At the Awards Night on May 13, we will announce these special scholarships and recipients feel especially honored to receive one.

So, if you have a special occasion to celebrate, and you agree that helping others with their post high school education expenses is important, please consider funding a Named Scholarship.
