Coupon clipping party is today, May 15, at 9 a.m. at the Connell sisters’ house, 539 Ramos Lane. You will be finished by noon. Please help if you can spare a couple hours. Great snacks too thanks to the hostesses.
You may also bring coupons to the meeting on May 18 for the next clipping party. Just leave them on a table at the back of the ballroom.
MAY MEETING
Hope you all can make it to our meeting on May 18 at 6:30 p.m. Eric Clark from Civano Nursery will impart tips and advise on how best to prepare gardens for the upcoming monsoon.
We will have five one-gallon plants guaranteed to attract butterflies and hummingbirds as door prizes.
We will start to sell tickets @$18 each for the summer luncheon at 5:30 p.m. on May 18. If you wish to sit with friends at the same table, we recommend that you buy all the tickets together. The theme for the day will be American Cowgirls Celebrate the Fourth. There will be a photo op with Uncle Sam too.
The menu will feature a Chicken Salad stuffed tomato with blueberries over mixed greens, roll, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The bar, which opens at 11:30, will offer Prickly Pear margaritas for $4. The Ballet Folklorico San Juan will perform authentic Hispanic folk dances dressed in the traditional brightly colored costumes of folkorico. We can wear western garb or something patriotic.
I am looking for two ladies to sell cookbooks from 5:30-6:30 on May 18 in the lobby.
If you can help, please let me know at pjmcgee@cox.net.
Someone has donated lots and lots of yarn that will be ideal for making hats, scarves, socks for the homeless veterans when we hold our clothing drive in the fall—date TBD but probably late October or early November. There are also some pastel colors that would be good for baby items for our shower in August, 2016. It will be available for the taking in the back of the ballroom prior to our meeting on May 18.
If you have any of the travel-sized toiletries that you will not be using, please consider donating them to the homeless veterans. Just bring them to the meeting on May 18 and leave them at the back of the ballroom. They would also appreciate sunscreen and Chapstick.
We received a thank you letter from one of the World War II veterans who went on the Honor Flight last month. He really appreciated all the letters he received. You can find that letter and a letter from the VA for the grooming items I took up there last month, as well as letters from the Civic Orchestra of Tucson and Valley Assistance Services for the cookbooks we donated for their respective raffles on the 2015 Thank You Notes page.
I am back from my travels—quite an adventure—but my body is going to need a few days to adjust to AZ time.
