TWOQC POLO SHIRTS
I will be placing another order for TWOQC pink polo shirts on August 18. The shirts are $18 and come in sizes Small to 2XX. I found they run small but since they are a blend, they do not shrink. If you wish to order a shirt, please let me know at pjmcgee@cox.net by August 17. You do not have to pay until the shirts are delivered.
HONOR FLIGHTS RESUMING IN SEPTEMBER
The 18th Honor Flight for WWII and Korean War veterans from the Tucson area to Washington DC will take place from September 12-14. Because approximately every 90 seconds a WWII veteran dies, this time we are asked to write generic letters to the 24 veterans traveling on this flight thanking them for their service.
Writing to the veterans is not difficult. Kay Robinson, Honor Flight Chair, has provided a sample letter for your consideration. Take parts of it; add to it; use it to get started writing to the 24 traveling to Washington DC on September 12th. You can write by hand or copy on the computer. It’s the “thought” that counts for the letters that will be distributed during Mail Call on the return flight. Please drop the letters off at Kay Robinson’s, 898 N Kenneth Drive (between Glen Canyon and Sawyer) by September 10th.
Dear Veteran,
You are my American hero! Thank you for serving in the military! I am so grateful for all the sacrifices you have made to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. I appreciate your U.S. military service by answering our Nation’s call in our times of greatest need. I especially keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
There aren’t many places in the world where men and women I have never met will fight, with their lives, to grant me rights that not everyone else has. There aren’t many of those places where those same men and women don’t ask for anything in return. They just love this country and its people enough that they’re willing to fight for them. I can only give eternal gratitude to you and veterans of this Nation. Each and every one of you is an inspiration to America.
Thank you so much for protecting and defending our freedom and way of life. We are the greatest country in the world because we have the greatest people in the world defending us. Words cannot express the infinite gratitude every American has for you.
I hope you had a wonderful time in DC. God bless you and God bless America!
TOUR OF AIR NATIONAL GUARD FACILITY
A group of those who worked on the baby shower got a tour of the Air National Guard facility this week. Probably the highlight for most of us was the chance to fly an F-16 in a simulator. That was harder than it looked. Now I know why I went in the Army rather than the Air Force! See the other photos under Air National Guard Tour.
FASHION SHOW
Our Fashion Show to support cancer research and services for cancer patients in the local area will be on Friday, February 12, 2016. We will start sign-ups for fashion show helpers—models, dressers, gift basket assemblers, decorations at the Membership Brunch on October 26. If you have any questions about the fashion show, please contact Nancy Jacobs at nancyajacobs@yahoo.com.
The decorating theme for the 2016 Fashion Show will have something to do with Valentine’s. Right now, we are starting to collect items for the gift baskets that will be used as raffle prizes. Perhaps you got a gift that you cannot use, or you bought something for yourself because it was on sale and now you can’t remember why you bought it. Such items might make someone else happy. If you are into crafts, perhaps you could make a piece of jewelry or decorative item for the home. Those of you who are good with a camera might think about having a photo framed or mounted. All prize donations should be marked Raffle Luncheon and may be taken to Ginny Hutcheson’s house at 2494 E Bluejay Bluff Lane. If you leave your name and email address, Ginny will be able to get receipts for tax purposes to you.
COUPONS
Coupons for the next shipment of coupons to the two overseas bases that the club supports should expire July 15 or later. We cannot accept any uncut coupons since we have no volunteers to clip them. Clipped and sorted coupons can be dropped off at either Peggy Richmond’s (2731 E. Eba Court) or Judy Poffenbarger’s (2390 E Bluejay Bluff Lane) house.
We are down to 14 cookbooks now, so don’t procrastinate much longer. I have them all at my house so if you want one, please send me an email at pjmcgee@cox.net, and I will arrange to get it to you. $15 cash or checks made payable to TWOQC Charity Account. See the thank you letter from Patti O’Berry, founder of Genesis House on our website under Thank You!
