APRIL PROGRAM

A big thank-you to Rocio Cespedes Patel and her husband from Tubac Olive Oil for their presentation last night. They brought many wonderful flavors of their olive oils and balsamic vinegars to sample. This was a perfect opportunity to learn more about these delicious and healthy local products. View the photos from the program via this «link». Congratulations, door prize winners!

TWOQC HONOR 2017 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The Kino Center was packed on Monday night for a special awards presentation of the Sahuarita and Walden Grove High School scholarship winners. Awardees were joined by family and friends for the presentation prior to the Tubac Olive Oil program. Each recipient received a long-stemmed pink rose and a mock check in the amount of their award. The ladies demonstrated grace and poise as they thanked TWOQC for their award. They shared their dreams and aspirations with the audience and they acknowledged the importance of the support needed to fulfill them. The girls also discussed the importance of service and their ongoing commitment to their community and school.

For the overall strength of their academic record, community involvement, and commitment to future goals, the following awards were made:

  • Carissa Gibson (Walden Grove) – Cochise College: Nurse Practitioner  $1,150
  • Jenna Livingston (Walden Grove) – University of Arizona: Environmental Engineering  $2,000
  • Nathania Duarte (Sahuarita High) – University of Arizona: Neonatal Nursing  $1,150
  • Daniela Reynolds (Sahuarita High) – Pima Community College: Dental Hygiene  $2,000

The Scholarship Committee is committed to following these young women as they launch their new educational careers.

Watch for updates as they progress towards their goals.

«YOUTH ON THEIR OWN»

The members of the YOTO committee would like to thank those of you who have given generously to help support Youth on Their Own during their recent crisis. YOTO is still in shock and recovering from the break in and theft of their supplies for their students. They are very grateful for our help and can still use the following items to replenish their stock.

  • Shampoo (full-size)
  • Conditioner (full-size)
  • Deodorant (full-size)
  • Chef Boyardee
  • Soup
  • Cereal
  • Boxed side dishes, such as:  Rice-a-Roni, Mashed Potatoes, Pasta Dishes, Mac ‘n Cheese

If you would like to help provide items for homeless teens please drop your offerings off at Diane Quinn’s house, 2276 E. Skywalker Way «map».  The YOTO committee will be taking your donations to YOTO offices on May 1.

People have inquired about making monetary donations. That is always much appreciated. Checks should be made out to: Youth on Their Own. Please provide mailing information so that your contribution can be acknowledged. YOTO is a 501c(3) organization and contributions may be tax-deductible.

Thank you for responding to this urgent need.

2017 BABY SHOWER

A huge thank-you to the QnA Group in Tucson for the gift of 30 shopping cart covers for the shower.

As we head into the last 2 weeks before our event, please take a moment and consider a donation for the babies this year. Donation boxes are located at the Madera Clubhouse lobby and at Pam Rodgers front porch at 2640 E. Sawyer Road. «map» Contact Pam at (520) 561-7969 with any questions.

We are truly thankful for the many contributions received. They will go a long way to making the 2017 shower a huge success. Our committees have been hard at work taking inventory, making decorations, shopping, sewing and planning. Just seeing the smiles on the faces of the families make all the long hours worth the work.

2018 FASHION SHOW

What great volunteers TWOQC are! We have four ladies who responded to the call for volunteers for the 2018 Fashion Show to benefit the American Cancer Society. “Back office” work is being done now and we ask again for ladies to serve. If you have an interest in helping with donation collection, preparing gift bags, registration or any other area, please email Carol Shelton «fashionshow@womenqc.com» to volunteer (include your area of interest and contact number). Or fill out the short Volunteer Form by clicking «HERE».

MONTHLY PROGRAM TABLE REQUESTS

Committees and others requiring table space at programs must submit their requests one (1) week prior to the program date. Please submit your requests to Nancy Jacobs «events@womenqc.com».

FOOD BANK DONATIONS

Thanks to all who so generously supported our semi-annual collection for the Food Bank on April 24.

The club was able to donate 151 lbs. of groceries plus another $75 in monetary donations.

VA TIDBITS

Due to space limitations, the VA is no longer accepting donations of women’s clothing at this time. We are looking into other organizations that might be able to use women’s summer attire for the upcoming «homeless veterans stand-down» scheduled for June 13 in Tucson.

Thanks to all who brought items for the homeless and hospitalized veterans to our program. The paper products will be a big hit. Laura Colbert delivered the items for the homeless and Peggy McGee will take the things for the hospitalized veterans next week.

We received two more «thank-you letters from the VA»: one for the donation of clothing and the other for the donation of food. Your continued support for those who served is greatly appreciated.
