Friday Morning Message

This week’s Friday Morning Message: June Luncheon & Reservations | Honor Flight Program | Memorial Day | Monthly Program Table Requests | 2017 Baby Shower | Honor Flight #23 | Scholarship News | Homeless Vets Clothing Drive | Upcoming Events

SUMMER LUNCHEON IN JUNE

The luncheon is Monday, June 26. Doors and bar open at 11:00. Program will begin at 11:30. Only TWOQC members and first-time guests will be sold seating at $20 each. The program will be a vintage fashion show by the «Vigilettes» from Tombstone, AZ.

The luncheon menu will be: tomato-filled with chicken salad, rosemary rolls, and for dessert: ice cream with caramel sauce/whipped cream/rolled wafer cookie. Specialty drinks are vintage cocktails at $4 each: Tom Collins, and Cuba Libre.

Please contact Nancy Jacobs at «events@womenqc.com» for reservations or you may use the online reservation form from the link below. If emailing Nancy, include: names of all members and first-time guests that you will be paying for at the time of purchase. When reserving seats/tables, please refer to this Seating Chart Layout (click chart to enlarge, or view the same «Seating Chart in PDF»).

The following seats are available: Table 7 – 2, Table 9 – 1, Table 12 – 2, Table 13 – 7, Table 14 – 3 and Table 15 – 9. Table numbers higher than Table 15 all have 10 seats remaining. The seating chart that you will view is setup to seat 300, we will not have that many members attending so tables will be arranged to allow everyone a good view of the stage, and no one will be against a wall.

All seats/tables put “on hold” must be paid for within five (5) days of the Hold Request. Click «this link» to access the online reservation form.

HONOR FLIGHT with Kathy Mansur & Janet Haegar – Monday, May 22 at 6:30

The Sahuarita High School Naval ROTC Honor Guard will present the colors. Members are encouraged to wear patriotic colors and bring a summer themed gift bag for a homeless veteran. Here are some ideas your Program Committee thought would be very appreciated: Sunscreen, Chapstick, Deodorant, Floss, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Disposable Razor, Baseball Cap, Summer Socks, Gum, Granola Bars (avoid chocolate as it melts). Please add a note to the gift bag to personalize it – thank them for their service.

Thank you for your ongoing generosity to our veterans.

MEMORIAL DAY

TWOQC will be laying a wreath during the Memorial Day service that begins at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 29 (the official date for Memorial Day) at Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery, 18751 S La Canada Drive. «map»

This year our own Laura Colbert will be doing the honor of laying the wreath. All are invited to the cemetery to pay respects to those veterans who have gone before us. It is recommended that you bring a lawn chair in case they run out of chairs.

MONTHLY PROGRAM TABLE REQUESTS

Committees and others requiring table space at programs must submit their requests one (1) week prior to the program date. Please submit your requests to Nancy Jacobs «events@womenqc.com».

2017 BABY SHOWER

We are now entering the busy “Shower Week” with the event being just 7 days away. The last of the inventory has been taken and the donation box at Madera Clubhouse is now in storage for next year.

Thank you again for all the donations of clothing, baby wash, diapers, raffle prizes, and monetary contributions. It all makes for a wonderful event and the difference it makes to our military families is so appreciated. Pictures will be available on the TWOQC website within a week or so after the shower on May 20.

Here’s to the best baby shower to date!

HONOR FLIGHT #23

Honor Flight #23 was postponed from April to September. Southern Arizona Honor Flight will charter an aircraft, therefore the number of veterans going to Washington DC will not be 25 but 75. As soon as the additional 50 names are available, the FMM will advise you. The (secret) “Mail Call” is one of the highlights of the trip. Please consider writing to the vets to thank them for their service and honor them.

Please bring what letters you have written to the May program and submit to Kay Robinson. For any questions you may contact Kay at «honorflight@womenqc.com».

Where are they… What are they doing????

It’s a job keeping up with active college freshman. However, it is our good fortune that we recently heard from both of our scholarship awardees from last year. The Scholarship Committee thought you would like to hear their news.

Kayla Christiansen graduated from Sahuarita High last spring with a goal of pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. She has been working hard, especially with her chemistry classes but has enjoyed more “relaxed feelings” about English and History. In her spare time, she continues working at La Posada and has completed training for volunteer work with youth at Banner Children’s Hospital. She also had time for a trip to San Diego with family and friends.

Carly Frieders graduated from Walden Grove and entered Rice University in Houston last fall. We caught up with Carly and she was exuberant about college life, her classes, and volunteering. Recently she was stage manager for ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ and played her cello in the pit orchestra for a production last winter. Carly’s goal is to become a lawyer for the underserved and/or for a non- profit. She will remain in Houston this summer to participate in an internship through Rice’s Center for Civic Leadership and will work at the non-profit Mi Familia Vota.
