This week’s Friday Morning Message: Celtic Steps’ Performance at Monday’s Luncheon | TWOQC Fashion Show – We Need Your Help | Food for the Troops Collection Coming July 1-4 | Great Start for School Supply Drive | Honor Flights Coming in September & October | Thank You for Veterans Donations | Upcoming Events
Celtic Steps got the attendees of the June luncheon dreaming of Ireland when the extraordinarily talented dance troop performed everything from fast and lively Irish reels, slips and jigs to the hornpipe. The twelve young men and women, ages 8 to 16, amazed the women with their high kicks and intricate footwork. One of the many highlights had to be the stirring rendition of “Danny Boy” sung by one of the older boys. It was easy to see why Celtic Steps is one of the top Irish dance schools in the country with many of the dancers winning numerous competition awards. LUNCHEON PHOTOS
Prior to the delightful entertainment, the ballroom buzzed with chatter as the ladies socialized and enjoyed a tasty lunch. Five lucky ladies went home with door prizes of Irish music CD’s as a memento of the luncheon.
Many thanks to all who helped with the event. Special thanks to Barbara Kittle for arranging the entertainment, to Janice Messer for coordination of reservations and room set-up, and to the check-in ladies Debra Bryant, Holly Crombie, Celeste Eastman, Bobbie Gordan, Sharon Goodenow, Lily Guthrie, Barb Hunsinger, Georgia Jaffe, and Joyce Walton. Thanks also to everyone who contributed to YOTO and the homeless veterans. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

The annual Food for the Troops Collection to support the junior airmen in the 162nd Fighter Wing, Air National Guard will take place in the Clubhouse lobby from July 1-4. This is the same unit that benefits from our annual baby shower. Some of the troops’ favorite foods include Hamburger Helper, Chef Boy R Dee items, cereal, granola bars, chili, stew, soups, and tuna. Also appreciated are paper, cleaning and hygiene items. There will be an envelope for monetary donations. Checks should be made payable to MOAA S&MA fund.
There will be a 50-50 raffle on the 4th of July from 7:45-9:30 in front of the clubhouse and from 1-2 p.m. in the lobby. Proceeds go towards the Turkeys for the Troops collection in November.
Many thanks for the generous donations to kick off TWOQC’s support for the YOTO Back to School Supply Drive. Women attending the luncheon brought backpacks loaded with school supplies and several people left generous monetary donations as well. The official start of the campaign begins July 1 so watch next week’s FMM for more details.
The next Honor Flights #25 and #26 taking WWII and Korean War Vets to Washington DC memorials will tentatively be Sept. 22-24 and Oct. 27-29. The number of veterans on each flight will be available in July. Please begin writing appreciation for your service and thank you for serving our country letters “To a Vet”, and/or “To a Hero”.
The generosity of our club members never ceases to disappoint. Thanks to all who brought so many needed items to the luncheon on Monday. The homeless veterans will really appreciate the 34 pairs of men’s briefs, the 41 pairs of socks and the clothing. The 9 lbs. of toiletries included several containers of sunscreen and Chapstick. The snacks, 344 paper plates, plus napkins, cups and plastic utensils will all be put to good use. Everything was delivered to the VA this week.
