SUMMER LUNCHEON

vivaperformingarts.com

The Summer Luncheon held on June 24th was a feast for the body and the soul. Ballet Folklorico San Juan’s thrilling presentation delivered vibrant color, foot-stomping rhythms, exquisite costumes and a fascinating narrative for the music and dance from several regions in Mexico. (Click or tap Viva’s logo to see more.)

The dancers ranged in age from 4 to 22. The older dancers were phenomenal, demonstrating talent and skill acquired over years of practice. However, the youngest stole the show with their uninhibited enthusiasm. It was not surprising that the program received a standing ovation from all the “grandmas” in the audience.

A cool delicious salad, great Chocolate Mousse pie, excellent service, and time to be with friends made the day particularly memorable. A special thanks to your Programs Committee for making this possible. If you have not seen the pictures on the TWOQC website, you must. Go to the Photo Gallery and enjoy TWOQC Summer Luncheon, June 2019.

DON’T MISS: UPCOMING PROGRAMS

Color Me Healthy and Beautiful: July 29 (6:30 p.m.)

Monday, July 29th at 6:30 p.m. in the Madera Ballroom, Deborah Bryant, a Quail Creek resident will present ā€œColor Me Healthy and Beautifulā€. Deborah has over 40 years of experience helping women achieve optimal outcomes in health and beauty. She has been a make-up artist, beauty consultant, health and wellness shopping coach and a businesswoman. Deborah states, ā€œI have helped thousands of women to be their BEST. Because appearance and wellness are fundamental to one’s self-esteem, it is important to learn fresh ways to realize these qualities in a way that complements one’s unique style.”

Join your friends for an evening of optimizing your health and beauty at any age.

Creative Tablescape Competition: Aug. 26 (6:30 p.m.)

Monday, August 26th at 6:30 p.m. TWOQC will host a Creative Tablescape Team Competition. At this time, we have at least 4 teams competing, and we are looking for anyone who has a desire to put together a fun Tablescape. So far, we have an Elvis -The King of Rock and Roll, Javelina Hoedown, Route 66 and Desert themes. There is a rumor an Asian theme is in the works. So, get creative and join the fun. An Ice Cream Social will put the cherry on top of the evening. This is a ticketed event: cost is $5.00 per person. Contact Bobbi Gordon (activities@womenqc.com or phone 625-9353). Tickets will be sold at the July 29 TWOQC program.

Contact Kathe Alves (programs@womenqc.com or phone 360-701-4782) for Tablescape questions and an entry form.

YOTO

Thank you for helping to kick off the YOTO (Youth on Their Own) ā€œBack to Schoolā€ drive which continues through August. The good news is that stores are beginning to offer great specials on school supplies. Our goal is to help YOTOĀ  supply each of the 2000 youths in the program with a backpack filled with needed supplies.

Donations such as full-sized backpacks, mechanical pencils, highlighters, markers, colored pencils, folders and binders, composition notebooks, and index cards can be dropped off inside the Madera Clubhouse lobby and at our monthly programs.

Gift card donations of $10 or $25 are happily accepted. (Please contact Sue Obremski at yoto@womenqc.com to arrange for your gift card donations to go directly to her instead of placing them in the donation box.)

Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Making a difference in the life of a youth is what it is all about. Thanks for your help!

MEMBERS CORNER

Thank you to all of our volunteer Greeters and survey helpers at our recent luncheon. We couldn’t provide these services to our members without you!

Guest Book Table: Evie Lamb & Teresa Buttelman
Name Tag Tables:Ā Clarice Sullivan, Janice Messer, Peggy Mykins, & Jane Brust
Assisting with the Survey: Kathy Kelly, Anne Smith, Mary Smith & Patty Zatkin. We’d also like to welcome our newest members: Pam Griffin, Brenda Jones, Sharon Pulcinella, Peggy Wynkoop.

Member Spotlight: Lisa Johnson

Lisa was born and raised in Southern California. Lisa’s job with Raytheon transferred her to Tucson in 1992 where she met her husband, Rick. They almost have a Brady Bunch, raising five children together —Ā  three are hers; two are his — since the kids were very young. They now have eight grandchildren and moved to Quail Creek in February 2016. PHOTO: LISA & RICK

Lisa has a passion for animals, beginning with horses and birds in her teen years. She has run Miniature Pinscher Rescue in Arizona since 2007 and volunteers at Equine Voices. Lisa retired from Raytheon on February 1, 2019, after a 34-year career with leadership roles in Finance, HR, and IT. She is grateful to have worked for a company that paid for her advanced education, allowed her to travel the country, and enabled her and Rick to send their kids through college. Lisa is a former board member for Executive Women International.

Lisa now enjoys serving as a barista at the Quail Creek Coffee Bar, spending more time with her growing family and with Rick on their boat, and exploring her new passion for art glass and designing beautiful jewelry. Lisa is the current Fashion Show Chair, and chaired the event in February 2019 – her first year as a member of TWOQC! She also serves on the Art Glass Club Board, so staying active and busy in retirement should not be an issue. PREVIOUS MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS

CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY

WITH GRATITUDE AND THANKS – Head of VA Homeless Program Says, “Thanks”

Jodi Frederick, who has been running the program for homeless veterans for the past several years, is being transferred to Boise, ID. In her farewell note, she said: “I would like to thank you and Quail Creek for all the support you have and do give our Veterans.Ā  We are truly blessed to have the Quail Creek community as supporters, and we constantly brag to our other VA facilities about what wonderful support we have from the community.”

FOOD FOR THE TROOPS

Thanks to all who so generously supported the Food for the Troops collection at our summer luncheon. The troops will be so delighted with all the Chef Boy-R-Dee products. In total, 140 lbs. of food was donated.

VA SUPPORT GROUP

A huge “THANK YOU” to everyone who has donated toiletries, paper products, summer clothing, shoes, and much more in the last quarter to the VA Homeless Program.
