Tributes and Honors

Strike up the band in Honor of The Women of Quail Creek!

On Tuesday, September 10 at the Desert Diamond Casino Diamond Center, TWOQC  accepted the Community/Group Award for the AZ 19 Most Influential People for 2019. Awardees were recognized as outstanding people/groups who have touched the lives of communities in the AZ 19 corridor and greater Santa Cruz County. Three hundred-plus honorees and guests gathered to celebrate the winners. On your behalf and amidst ovations and cheers, TWOQC received the award. Look for it in the display case at the Creative Arts and Technology Center. We are proud to be recognized as making a difference in our community. Club photographer, Eileen Sykora, posted pictures in this PHOTO ALBUM.

Veteran’s Clothing Drive Prequel

Come One, Come All to TWOQC’s program on Monday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. The entire Quail Creek Community is invited, yes men too. We hope to encourage all Quail Creek veterans to attend. Why you might ask? The September program is planned to discuss and answer questions about the VA and what happens to our donations when they arrive at the VA Center in Tucson. It is a prequel to the annual Veteran’s Clothing and House Goods Drive on Saturday, October 19.

Representatives from the VA will be present for a panel discussion. They will share how decisions are made about what items are most needed (Men’s clothes only this year – Sorry no women’s clothing will be accepted), and how they are distributed to needy veterans. It is the tenth year for TWOQC to organize the event involving large numbers of men and women volunteers (over 110 last year) accepting and boxing donations, directing traffic and delivering the goods to the VA. Members Angie Werner and Tessie Hagerich (Clothing Drive Chair) will speak briefly about Quail Creek’s and TWOQC’s involvement. Lists of most needed items will be available.

And… a special tribute to the military will be provided by the Quail Creek Chorus – led by Cyndy Gierada.

YeeHaw! Javelina Hoedown is Coming to Town!

Com’ on down for your tickets ($35 each)!

Come and see us before Bingo on September 19 in the lobby of the Madera Clubhouse between 4:30 and 5:45. We will have tickets to the Javelina Hoedown Benefit; 50/50 raffle and raffle tickets for our incredible baskets.

Miss us on September 19? Don’t fret. We will be at the Grill September 29 from 9:30-1:30, and at the back of the ballroom on at the TWOQC VA program on the 30th 5:30-7:00.

  • In stock for purchase @ $5 ea. are cute little quail flashlights in a variety of colors
  • We will also be offering lighted magnifying glasses @ $5
  • And, back by popular demand, thermal totes @ $7

They will make great holiday gifts, so you can start on your shopping list now. Not only will you get some shopping out of the way but you will also help a good cause.

Save the date for lots of fun on OCTOBER 13 at JAVELINA HOEDOWN.

November Travel Extravaganza

Have you traveled to an exotic place or experienced a wonderful travel adventure? Then we want to hear from you!

For the November 11th Ladies Night Out: Travel Extravaganza, one table will focus on TWOQC members who have been to a special place and want to share their stories. If you have a few photos to share along with brief notes of  ‘what not to miss’ at that special place, please contact activities@womenqc.com or barbhunsinger50@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Nominating Committee Means VIB: “Very Important Business”

Our organization continues to grow and prosper with leadership that encourages participation, promotes our mission and goals, and offers a variety of perspectives.

TWOQC Nominating Committee is in place and needs everyone to help find candidates for three Executive Board positions beginning in 2020. The positions are:

Secretary   ·   Publicity   ·   President-Elect

Candidates need to be in a member in good standing for a minimum of one year. Please encourage those you know who love the organization, value sharing ideas, enjoy working with others to be considered. And, if you want to offer your skills and talents, nominate yourself. Contact the Committee Chair, Deborah Bryant, or anyone on the committee to make a nomination (nominatingcommittee@womenqc.com).

Deborah Bryant (Chair); committee members: Holly Crombie, Jean Duynslager, Cheryl Francis, Jadine Hilt, Judy Mynatt, Joyce Walton.

Desert Recipes for Fall Festival Raffle Baskets

Here’s a chance for you to meet the call for TWOQC and to be of great assistance. You ask how? In our last FMM, we revealed the plans for an exciting new cookbook. We are compiling a cookbook titled Desert Recipes, to include your favorites from the southwest. The cookbook is planned to be part of the three raffle baskets to be raffled off at the November Quail Creek Fall Festival Craft Show (November 2 and 3). If you have a favorite recipe, please send it to Sue Ann Obremski (secretary@womenqc.com). Thank you for participating. As always your help is greatly appreciated.

Member Spotlight: Sue Ann Obremski

Sue Ann was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the age of 14, her family moved to Connecticut, where she completed her schooling and went out into the working world. Sue Ann joined IBM at the age of 25 in Hamden, Connecticut, where she worked as an administrator. In her spare time, she became an avid crafter and sewer. Sue Ann recalls that she has sewn since the age of seven, taught by her mother.

In 1975, she married Walter, who also worked for IBM. Their careers took them to upstate New York, where they spent 16 years, before moving to Washington D.C. where they lived for 18 years. It was in D.C. that Sue Ann expanded her knowledge of sewing to teach at a local sewing machine dealer. This led her to begin to design patterns and to write instructions. Today, Sue Ann enjoys teaching classes in Sahuarita and across the United States.

Seven years ago, after visiting a dear friend, Sue Ann, Walter and their two furry balls (cats) decided on a move to Quail Creek. They had never lived anywhere west of Pennsylvania. They exchanged the green beauty of the East for the brown beauty of Arizona.

Today, Sue Ann is active in several Quail Creek organizations, including The Women of Quail Creek.  She is both Secretary for TWOQC and Chairperson for the Youth On Their Own committee. Sue Ann loves sewing for the Military Baby Shower in the spring and never tires of sewing, designing and writing instructions. Also, she is active in the Lapidary Club. Sue Ann loves retirement, even though she is now busier than her pre-retirement years. PREVIOUS MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS

Military Baby Shower

The Military Baby Shower (MBS) committee continues to invite new members to join their committee. Always welcomed are fresh ideas, helping hands and great enthusiasm in support of our military families. The first formal meeting will be on Monday, November 4 at 10 a.m. in the Mesquite Room. Currently, members are busy collecting items for the HOT, HOT, HOT! basket to be raffled off at the Fall Festival in November.

Donations can be dropped off to Karen Baker. This is a committee fundraiser so the hope is to fill a plentiful basket! Committee members are off to an early start this year and the cutting and sewing of baby and mommy items have commenced. If you would like to help, please contact Karen for more information at 269-7341 or babyshower@womenqc.com.
