Sonoran Foods Cooking Class on Sept. 26
DON’T FORGET! Our Sonoran Foods Cooking Class via Zoom will be on Saturday, September 26th at 1 p.m. Minerva Orduño Rincón, who teaches at the Cooking School sponsored by Tumacookery, will teach us how to make Sonoran flour tortillas with roasted chiles and cheese. The class will last approximately one hour.
Minerva trained and worked as an architect before entering the culinary field where she has spent the last decade. She was born and raised in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, lived in southern Spain, and in various cities throughout the US. Her primary culinary focus is on Sonoran food and the hybridization of cuisines and cultures in the borderland region.
Members will get an email from TWOQC on September 25, an invitation and “how to” join the class. This is a Zoom presentation so only 100 ladies will be able to attend this Members Only event. Please do not share the email with any of your non-member friends. In the event we exceed the class size limitation, or you are unavailable on the 26th, Minerva will record the session so members can watch it later.
We hope our members will enjoy the virtual presentation and invite your feedback so the Programs Committee will know whether to try a similar webinar on a different topic.
Congratulations to the Relay for Life Team
With a little help from their friends at TWOQC, the QC Relay for Life Team raised over $26,000 in 2020 for the American Cancer Society and ranked among the top 100 teams in the United States. Ginny Hutcheson, Relay Team Captain, shares the following message with our members:
It has been a wonderful experience to work with The Women of Quail Creek and I personally thank all who have supported our cause. In the past 10 years that the Quail Creek Fights Back Relay for Life team has been active, our success would not have happened if it had not been for the support of Quail Creek residents and their generosity. To have raised $200,000 for the American Cancer Society to help cancer patients is an honor and I thank you all for your support.
Thank you, Ginny, for all your hard work for a cause so dear to us all!
Fashion Show 2021 Update
The pandemic has claimed yet another program that is dear to many TWOQC members.
The Executive Board and Committee Co-chairs, Paula Thomason and Lisa Johnson, have determined that the Fashion Show, originally scheduled for February, must be postponed.
The Board is exploring other options for supporting the American Cancer Society in 2021.
Information about how members of TWOQC and the larger Quail Creek community can support those efforts will be available at a future date.
Connecting With Our Community
How Are You Staying Involved? We Want to Know…
Staying connected with our community is a tremendous challenge right now. We are grateful for the energy and effort required for sewing countless masks, creating over 500 #PimaLove Notes, supporting the Community Food Banks, the VA, Women’s Warriors and Genesis House. But we are particularly curious about other volunteer activities you may be doing. Please reply to pastpresident@womenqc.com.
TWOQC member Laura Colbert has been up to her “eye-balls” providing videotaped stories for the second-grade class at Anza Trails in Sahuarita. Normally, Laura visits once per week, excites children with a fun story combined with an art activity. Since March she has taped 5 stories with her iPhone, tripod and a bit of help from husband Jerry! The videos are sent via email to the teacher who makes them available to her students. Laura admits this is not ideal. She loves reading in person to children, inviting them to join in, watching their eyes sparkle as they become excited about reading. She acknowledges that her efforts are supporting learning wherever it is happening. CHEERS, Laura! By the way, two of her favorite books are ‘Dragons Love Tacos’ and ‘Mother Bruce’.
WOMEN WARRIORS
Women Warriors has just signed a lease for a new building that will put all their services in one building. They are in the process of moving everything to the new location. They will not be accepting any donations until October, exact date to be determined. When they reopen, they will only be accepting fall and winter weight items, so please save your summer clothing until the spring.
New & Notable
