∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴

be a champion of others _with smiling heart

I don’t know about you, but I was mesmerized by the 2024 Olympics. First of all, it was in Paris and who wouldn’t want to see those beautiful Parisian cityscapes. Secondly, it was amazing to see the beauty and strength of the athletes, whether they were swimming, performing gymnastics, playing basketball or sprinting with all their might. But most of all, I was enthralled by the support that the athletes gave to each other. It did not matter whether the athletes were encouraging and congratulating teammates or those from another country. The ‘good race’ comments, the helping each other off the ground, the hugs, pats on the back, and the tears were shared by all.

But perhaps the thing that brought the biggest tears to my eyes was actually a commercial. Yes, you read it right… a commercial. I couldn’t even tell you the company that this ad was promoting, but the sentiment was genuine and irrefutable. Picture a weight lifter with a close up of his hands on the barbell with hundreds of pounds on each end. Then, more and more hands are added onto the barbell right before the weight lifter raises the weights over his head. Small hands, old hands, hands of color, hands of people who supported this athlete over the years. Is there a little tear starting to form? Now picture a fencer with the perfect form and behind the athlete is a whole crowd of individuals moving with each advance, lunge and feint. What a powerful way to suggest that we don’t accomplish great things without the support of those around us.

Who has supported you over your lifetime? Who has been there to guide, encourage, or listen to you in times of exhilaration or anxiety? As members or enthusiasts of TWOQC, we have the opportunity to be supporters of others. Continue reading this monthly message to learn more about our support of Courtney’s Courage which supports families with children who have cancer. Gather more information regarding our challenge to provide scholarships for young women in transition or those graduating from high school. Consider joining us. It’s your opportunity to part of a team of greatness, to be a true champion of others.

Debi Gutknecht
TWOQC President-Elect as Acting President

∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴

gift card clipartIn just a couple of weeks, our outreach efforts to collect gift cards for local families of children with cancer will wrap up.  The Community Outreach Committee is collecting gift cards through August 31 (gas, fast food/Starbucks or Dutch Bros, and grocery stores) to benefit families in Sahuarita and Green Valley whose children with cancer are being treated at Banner’s Children Hospital in Tucson. Gift cards from $10 – $20 can make a huge difference for these families as they often make daily trips to Tucson.

Gift card collections — where to donate:

If you live outside of the Quail Creek community and would like to donate gift cards or send a check, please mail to: TWOQC, PO Box 395, Green Valley, AZ 85614. Make checks payable to: TWOQC, with Community Outreach written in the “memo line”.

If you are a member or Quail Creek resident reading this, you may drop off your gift cards to Roxanne Housley’s home (address is available in the HOA Member Directory). There will be a container for cards on her entryway table.

Thank you to our members and community for your ongoing support.

∴ SCHOLARSHIP ∴  2024 Javelina Hoedown · Tues., October 22

We are once again fortunate that a group of people who are big supporters of The Women of Quail Creek’s Scholarship program, have come forward to fund another Matching Fund Program in 2024.

Matching Fund Program

matching funds campaign logoThis Matching Fund Program, along with our annual fundraiser, the Javelina Hoedown, will allow TWOQC to continue to fund scholarships for local deserving women who need financial help pursuing their education.

If you are a TWOQC member or have contributed to the scholarship program in the past, you will be receiving a personal invitation to join this effort by making a contribution via the Matching Fund Program.

The donor group has offered $40,000 in a 2 for 1 match. This means that for every $100 raised it becomes $300 toward our goal. So, your contribution is multiplied! When you receive your letter, I hope you will consider what it means to each one of our scholarship recipients and give generously.

Ready, Set, Hoedown: October 22

Javelina Dancing2_gifmaker_meJavelina Hoedown tickets will go on sale beginning September 3, from 8:30 – 11am in the lobby of the Madera Clubhouse.

Entertainment this year… we will have a live band, Hardscrabble Road, providing the music for the Hoedown! There will be a Chuckwagon Dinner, a western style photo booth, plus a Silent Auction (with a new feature, Gift Card Alley)!
