∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
At this time of the year, I spend my quiet moments ruminating about the previous twelve months and the new opportunities and choices that await me in the coming year. After all, our lives are shaped by the choices we make, and it is what we say ‘yes’ to that truly determines our path. Whether we are lending a helping hand to one of TWOQC’s committees, donating funds for Scholarships or one of the chosen charities of Community Outreach, we know that each ‘yes’ brings us closer to making a meaningful difference. As one wise person once said, “It’s what you say yes to that determines your life. The no’s just lead nowhere.” So, here’s to saying yes to making an impact and enriching our lives and the lives of others.
Of course, saying “yes” doesn’t mean we always know what we are getting into. Sometimes, it is volunteering for an event we are unsure about or stepping out of our comfort zones to try something new. But that’s the beauty of it! Through laughter, learning, and even a few missteps along the way, we grow together and support one another in all that we do. Whether you are interested in leadership or just want to join us for some fun and fellowship, remember saying yes to The Women of Quail Creek means you are part of something bigger, and trust me, it is a journey worth taking.
And speaking of saying ‘yes’, it is my pleasure to introduce you to eight amazing women who said ‘yes’ to leading our organization as the 2025 Executive Board of Directors.
-
- Janet Shropshire – President Elect
- Joan Brown – Secretary
- Pat Holmes – Treasurer
- Roxanne Housley – Director of Community Outreach
- Myra McCune – Director of Membership
- Nancy Jacobs – Director of Programs
- Inna Shames – Director of Publicity
- Deb Melton – Director of Scholarships
I am grateful to have each of these women in my life and look forward to all the “yes” opportunities that await us.
Warmly,
Debi Gutknecht
TWOQC President
∴ SCHOLARSHIP ∴ Women in Transition (WIT) has a new name: Advancing Women through Education (AWE)!
Reviewing our scholarship opportunity this fall, it was decided that it was time to choose a name for the scholarships for women over 21 who are returning to school that more closely aligns with that mission, To provide scholarships to empower women through education. Hence, the name change for Women In Transition Scholarship (WIT) to Advancing Women through Education Scholarship (AWE).
UPDATE: Both the High School Scholarship and Advancing Women through Education (AWE) Scholarship applications are now available on TWOQC’s website: Scholarship Applications page.
If you know of a woman, over 21 who is returning to school and needs help with tuition costs, please let her know about this opportunity and send the link to the application. For high school girls, all the information is available at the counselor’s office for Walden Grove, Sahuarita, and Rio Rico High Schools. All monies are paid directly to the school the recipient attends.
Questions can be sent to Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships.
The deadline for submission is April 7 and a public awards ceremony will be held at the Madera Ballroom on May 13.
With grateful hearts, we want to recognize the monetary donations of $434 to Genesis House Shelter that allowed our committee to purchase Christmas gifts for the five children and four mothers staying at Genesis House over the Christmas holiday. The children received toys on their Christmas list along with clothes and each mother received a $50 gift card.
The New Year will begin with a commitment to support the Green Valley Food Bank and details will be provided at a later date. In addition, the committee will support Sahuarita Parks and Recreation’s summer program for youth. We plan to offer additional support to Courtney’s Courage and finally, there will be a drive to support Green Valley Animal League.

2025 is off to a great start! Already TWOQC members have participated in new member small social groups, rock painting, book groups, and a trip to the Ignite Sign Art Museum (Tucson). They’ve also had the opportunity to have Coffee and Pastries with the TWOQC Board to hear what they are working on and to offer suggestions.
Some of our favorite activities, In My Kitchen and On the Go trips, are planned for the remaining days of January. The new craft group and garden group will be offering members a chance to show their style. Coming attractions in February include a visit to the University of Arizona School of Dance and a program for all members from Ben’s Bells. [Past Events]
