∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
Events in our lives fascinate me. Some are celebratory, like the day my dear friend found out she was cancer free. Some are thought provoking such as my recent conversation with my brother where we debated the intersection of common sense, morality and ethics. And others can be frustrating. Let me ruminate on that one for a while.
My husband and I recently planned a trip to Nevada to see our three sons and all the grandchildren. We looked forward to camping in our RV as we travelled from Green Valley to Las Vegas and then onto Reno. Alas, our truck had different ideas. As we limped along at forty miles per hour into Las Vegas, we parked the RV, went to the dealership, left the truck, stored the RV and rented a car to continue our travels. Those of you who might remember the Beverly Hillbillies would say that we resembled them as we traveled the two lane road through central Nevada. Nothing was going as planned and I contemplated our dilemma.
Was I to learn about patience? I have had a lifetime of opportunities where I thought that I had that mastered patience. So, what was I to understand?
Here are my latest musings on this topic: Life is adventure. How am I going to enjoy it?
- I came face-to-face with a wild donkey in Beatty, Nevada. In a truck, I would have missed that nose level view.
- Rather than stay in our RV, we stayed at our son’s home which meant that I could easily wake up with the grandchildren and tuck them in bed at night. That was heavenly.
- My oldest son cleaned his home, made us dinner, and had breakfast waiting for us in the morning making me marvel at his loving kindness.
- Using a box rather than a suitcase to travel with isn’t that bad.
- Three dogs don’t care what vehicle we use as long as we are together.
All in all, it was a marvelous and unexpected series of events that I would not want to have missed.
As we head into a very busy time with The Women of Quail Creek, I hope that our members look at coming events as opportunities for a change of viewpoint. We are launching our search for new Board Members. As our Nominating Committee begins asking members for their time and consideration to run for office, please give it some thought. Perhaps that opportunity might present itself as a grand adventure.
With the wish that each day bring you an adventure and a smile.
Warmly,
Debi Gutknecht

You will learn more about Valley Assistance Services and how they serve approximately 7,000 individuals in our community on an annual basis. The first Federally Qualified Health Center in Arizona is right here in Green Valley – United Community Health Center and their needs are significant.
