∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
Traditions are rather interesting, aren’t they? How do they begin and what’s the compelling reason they continue for years? I started thinking about this as I was sitting on a cold, hard bleacher watching my grandson’s high school Homecoming football game in Las Vegas. Did you know that Homecoming has been a part of our American history dating back to 1911? What an enduring tradition.
As I sat in the bleachers (did I mention that they were cold and hard?), I saw tradition unfold before my eyes. High school alumni were sporting their best school sweatshirts and greeting each other with warm hugs. It’s a tradition. Parents and grandparents filled the stand with pride to watch a family member either play in the game or march in the band’s halftime show. Another tradition. The floats, created by each class, were paraded in front of the adoring crowd. Love that tradition. The King and Queen were announced and crowned with royal pageantry. It’s all part of the grand tradition.
All of this instantly transported me back in time to Hudson, Iowa, where I attended high school in the late sixties. I was sitting on a cold, hard bleacher in the rather chilly Iowa weather cheering with friends. The bonfire had quieted to flickering embers. The Hudson Pirates were winning. Little did I know that the boy who just ran for a touchdown would become my husband thirty years later. My eyes began to tear. I guess I am a pushover for nostalgia. I like traditions. I like knowing that I am part of something bigger than this particular moment in time.
With that in mind, The Women of Quail Creek has some traditions coming soon. Read more about our annual Javelina Hoedown (October 2024) which supports TWOQC’s scholarship program. The annual Open House (November 2024), Board elections, and our Holiday event (December 2024) will all be forthcoming. It’s a grand time be a member. Enjoy it and the traditions that we share together.
Warmly,
Debi Gutknecht

∴ SCHOLARSHIP ∴
Javelina Hoedown is here!

The 2025 Javelina Hoedown to benefit TWOQC Scholarships takes place in just a few days. If you are lucky enough to have a ticket, be prepared for loads of fun and to bid on some of the fabulous items offered this year in the Silent Auction, including a private dinner to be prepared by our own Chef Aris! We will have an update on funds raised from the Hoedown next month.
You may have heard that we launched the 2025-26 Matching Fund Program in September. A group of generous donors has once again offered $40,000 in a 2 for 1 match. This means that for every $100 raised it becomes $300 toward our goal. So, your contribution is multiplied! You may have already received a personal invitation, by mail, to join this effort and if you have already sent in a contribution, we THANK YOU!
If you have not already contributed and would like to help us fund scholarships, you may contact me, Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships by email, scholarships@womenqc.com and request a donation envelope. Or simply send a check of any amount to TWOQC Scholarships, P.O. Box 395, Green Valley AZ 85614.
We hope you will consider what it means to each one of our scholarship recipients and give generously.
∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴
The Community Outreach Committee will be collecting donations for the Animal League of Green Valley (a no kill animal shelter) on Thursday, November 6 from 11 AM – 2 PM at the Quail Creek upper-level Pickleball Court parking lot.
For those who are unable to participate on the 6th or live outside our Quail Creek community and want to donate, checks are appreciated and can be made out to The Animal League of Green Valley. You can mail your checks to TWOQC Community Outreach Committee, P.O. Box 395, Green Valley, AZ 85614 and our committee will send to the Animal League.
