∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
I love Van Morrison songs. I was listening and fully appreciating the lyrics of one of his best: “Days Like This” from 1995. If you like, here is the song and then read along with a portion of the lyrics I’ve shared below. But don’t stop there. Listen to the entire song. It gets better. Access the song with full lyrics. (Click ‘skip’ after a 15-second Ad, if prompted.)
“When it’s not always raining, there’ll be days like this
When there’s no one complaining, there’ll be days like this
Everything falls into place like the flick of a switch
Well, my mama told me there’d be days like this“
The lyrics portray a sense of peace and appreciation for the goodness we can find in our lives. I recently traveled with several good friends to Santa Fe, New Mexico. We experienced amazing weather, no complaining – only laughter and a sense of fun, and everything just fell into place like the flick of a switch as we made our journey to a beautiful and historic city. My mama told me there’d be days like this.
At this time of year, I am reminded of who I am thankful for. I am thankful for my travel partners and good friends. I am thankful for the Board members who put forth their best efforts in making TWOQC a wonderful and meaningful organization. I am thankful to our members who volunteer their time whether they are part of Scholarship, Community Outreach, Membership, Programs, Photography, Decorations, Activities Coordinator, Honor Flight, or Technology Experts. When all of these amazing women work together for the good of TWOQC, great things happen. My mama told me there’d be days like this.
Wishing you a marvelous start of the holiday season.
Your TWOQC President,
Debi Gutknecht

Update on Javelina Hoedown

THANK YOU, everyone who attended this year’s Javelina Hoedown! Once again, the Madera Clubhouse was rockin’ for the annual TWOQC Javelina Hoedown to Benefit Scholarships. Hard Scrabble Road played again this year and they wowed the crowd with their music! Bill Foraker served as MC and kept everyone informed about Cash Raffle tickets and Silent Auction bidding.
TWOQC Decorating Committee headed by Sandi Beecher did an outstanding job decorating the clubhouse and the ballroom with western motif which set the stage for a fun evening.
The Silent Auction this year was very popular featuring 109 items and more bidders than ever! Hats off to Linda Hauschild and Joy Richardson and their team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the silent auction a huge success! Thanks to all who donated items or dinners or other experiences to the Silent Auction along with all those who scoured businesses in the area and collected donations. And let’s not forget those who bid generously which helped to raise about $15,935 for scholarships.
This year’s 50/50 Raffle was brought in $2,220! Pam Reuhl, who is not a TWOQC member, was the winner and generously donated back the entire amount! Thank you, Pam!
We couldn’t do it without the help of so many volunteers who worked the night of the Hoedown selling raffle tickets, directing party-goers, and serving as Silent Auction monitors and cashiers. Thank You!!
All-in-all everyone in attendance had a wonderful time and many came home with some amazing items. After expenses the 2025 Javelina Hoedown cleared just over $21,700. That will fund 6 scholarships. Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed items, and worked to make this event a huge success. [TWOQC’s Cumulative Scholarship History To-Date]
While the Javelina Hoedown is the only fundraising event that benefits TWOQC scholarships, we are once again fortunate to have a group of dedicated donors who have contributed $40,000 for a 2-to-1 Matching Fund Campaign. The Campaign kicked off in September and donations have been coming in. Many people are using part of their Required Minimum Distribution funds to donate to the Matching Campaign. Simply decide the amount you would like to contribute, contact your financial advisor and have them send the funds to TWOQC, Attn: Scholarship Matching Fund, P.O. Box 395, Green Valley AZ 85614. Be sure to include your name and address so that we can send you a Thank You letter. Contact Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships if you have any questions at scholarships@womenqc.com. If you have already sent a contribution, we Thank You!
If you were not at this year’s Javelina Hoedown, you will want to plan on attending next year. The date is already set for Wednesday, Oct 21, 2026. Mark your calendar now so that you don’t miss out on the fun!
∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴

The Women of Quail Creek Community Outreach Committee held a very successful fundraising drive for the Animal League of Green Valley (a no-kill animal shelter) on Thursday, November 6. Quail Creek residents drove or cycled to the Pickleball Court parking lot to drop off food, toys, snacks, collars, leashes, kennels, cat towers, blankets, checks and cash in support of the Animal League. Over 1,400 items were collected along with $945 in cash! We are very grateful to our Quail Creek community for their support.
In December, we will be collecting pajamas and books to support the Angel Heart Pajama Project. Their mission is to provide new pajamas and books to children who are abandoned, abused, removed from homes and placed in foster care or live in homeless shelters in the surround communities. Their belief is that every child deserves a nurturing bedtime. If you are unable to shop but would like to support this effort, you may forward a check made out to TWOQC (with Pajama Project in the memo line) and mail to TWOQC, Attn: Community Outreach Committee, P.O. Box 395, Green Valley, AZ 85614.
