∴ PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE for Members from JANET ∴
Change. It’s something we all face. As many have heard, I am navigating some personal changes in my life –and I know many of you are experiencing changes of your own.
We are often told that change is inevitable. It isn’t always easy, and it isn’t always welcome, but it also brings opportunity. As an organization, TWOQC is no stranger to change. Each year, with the addition of new officers, we gain fresh perspectives, new ideas and a wealth of life experiences that help us grow.
We’ve already changed this year. The addition of a formal Annual Report to the membership was presented. A change in the way we present events to the membership has changed with the Monday morning posting. TWOQC has expanded the organization’s reach by forming a financial committee and partnering with the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation. And just a few days ago, our members received a copy of the bylaw changes being recommended by the Executive Board.
At the same time, it is important to value our history. We learn from the experiences of those who helped establish our organization. As we move forward and embrace new ideas, I ask patience and support from our members through the transitions. I believe for an organization to thrive, we must be willing to evolve – while staying grounded to the ideals and principles that define us.

∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴
The Community Outreach Committee has exceeded its goal of collecting 100+ bags of shoes totaling more than 2,500 pairs of shoes. We will be receiving a check for $1,130 to give to United Community Health Center to benefit their Pediatric Dental and Behavioral Health Programs.
We are currently collecting items for Valley Assistance Services (VAS) May 13 – 22 to help fill their Essentials Pantry List. This is especially important during summer when children are on vacation and do not receive daily meals from school. If you are not able to shop, we would be grateful for checks (made out to The Women of Quail Creek with a note in the memo: VAS), or gift cards to Fry’s or Safeway. Please send to TWOQC, PO Box 395, Attn: Community Outreach Committee, Green Valley, AZ 85614.
Our Committee recently purchased items for HOPE RISING Arizona Transitional Housing’s dining room. Several committee members and three husbands put together the dining room table and eight chairs. We were unable to decorate because the painting wasn’t completed.
Thank you for your support from TWOQC’s Community Outreach Committee.
∴ SCHOLARSHIPS ∴
The 11th Annual TWOQC Scholarship Awards Celebration was held on May 13 at the Madera Clubhouse.
Several TWOQC members, community leaders, residents, and scholarship recipients and their families gathered in the ballroom and watched as 25 young women were awarded scholarships of $3,500 each from The Women of Quail Creek.
This year Isabela Lisco, a KOLD Channel 13 education reporter, was there to cover the event. The segment will air on KOLD’s 5-5:30 local news sometime between May 18 and 22nd. Isabela filmed interviews with Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships, along with two of the recipients, Claudia Hyde and Charlotte Robles, and a part of the awards ceremony.
Charlotte is a Sahuarita HS senior who will attend the U of A and major in Veterinary Science, specializing in large animals. No surprise since she loves horses and is an accomplished equestrian. The challenges her family faced have taught Charlotte independence, resilience, and persistence. In addition, she was on the Varsity Girls Golf Team for 3 years, senior class treasurer, on the student council, and in the National Honor Society. She was on the Gold Honor Roll for 3 consecutive years and achieved a 4.06 weighted GPA.
Claudia is a mother and grandmother. She has worked full-time at the VA Hospital in the Hospice Care unit for 7 yrs. Claudia impressed us with her enthusiasm for Hospice work and was recently recognized for her exceptional dedication to her patients by Tucson’s 5 of 50, who recognizes people in medicine for excellence. She is enrolled FT to become an RN at Cochise College in Sierra Vista. Claudia told me how grateful she is for this scholarship, because she will need to cut her work hours at work to fulfil her nursing program requirements over the next year. Her comment to me was, “The work of the Women of Quail Creek Scholarship program is changing lives.”
Since 2016 TWOQC has awarded 152 scholarships with a cumulative total of $428,700!
Steve Oesterie, President of the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation and the Continental District School Board, who attended the Awards Night, told me, “The contribution that The Women of Quail Creek are making to our community is not going unnoticed. You are truly making a difference in our community.” It was the first time he had attended this event and he said that it won’t be the last. The Women of Quail Creek affiliated with the Greater Green Valley Foundation earlier this year. We are proud to be part of this organization that supports nonprofits like ours.
“I am honored to be a part of the Scholarship committee and to serve with such talented and truly caring women in TWOQC. It is their dedication to supporting young women in their educational pursuits and the donations from our community that make it possible to help young women further their education.”

Director of Scholarships
