Scorpion-0TWOQC MEETING ON AUGUST 31

The program that starts at 6:30 p.m. will feature naturalist Jeff Babson.  In his talk, Bites, Stings and Scratches, Jeff will investigate the plants and animals in the Sonoran desert that protect themselves in ways that are extremely unpopular with humans. You’ll learn all about the well-fortified flora and fauna that dwell in the desert—bees, scorpions, rattlesnakes, poison ivy, and many others. Door prizes too—no live critters!

SEPTEMBER 12-14 HONOR FLIGHT

Honor Flight names _ Sept 2015

(Click list to enlarge)

We finally received the list of those going on the Honor Flight in September.

The pink is the lone female going on this trip while the green represents those living in Green Valley. All the rest are from the greater Tucson area. You may bring the letters to our meeting on August 31 or you can take the letters to Kay Robinson’s, 898 N Kenneth Drive by September 10th.

Letters may be to a particular veteran or a generic “Dear Veteran”.

As you can see by the photo of one of the veterans holding his stash of mail, “Mail Call” brings a lot of smiles.

Animated_Woman_Working_Desk-2smWRITER NEEDED

Like to write? Can you spare about 12 hours per month? We are looking for someone to write articles for the Crossing and X-tra, and occasionally the GV News starting in January, 2016 through December, 2017. Training will be provided. Those interested in helping keep TWOQC in the news may contact me at pjmcgee@cox.net or by calling 207-6188.

Sympathy greeting cardSUNSHINE CARDS

If you know of anyone who is ill or who has lost a spouse, child, or other close relative, please let one of the board members know (Janice Pell, 1st VP, Publicity; Carol Mutter, 2nd VP, Membership; Barbara Kittle, Secretary; Nancy Wilson, Treasurer; Sandi Beach, Special Events; or me) so we can send a card.

COUPONS

Coupons for the next shipment of coupons to the two overseas bases that the club supports should expire July 15 or later. Coupons can be dropped off at either Peggy Richmond’s (2731 E. Eba Court) or Judy Poffenbarger’s (2390 E Bluejay Bluff Lane) house. They will be shipping the coupons to the overseas locations on September 2 so please drop them off before then. You may also bring them to our meeting on the 31st.

Coupons for the National Guard should expire September 21 or later. Check the Website for how these should be sorted.

2016 calendar2016 CALENDARS

It seems every day brings a new deluge of 2016 calendars to my house, in both wall and pocket sizes.

Please don’t put them in the recycle bin if you have reached your calendar quota already. The hospitalized VA patients really appreciate receiving them. Please bring them to the next meeting.

Raffle prizesFASHION SHOW

Here is still another idea for the raffle baskets for the Fashion Show to benefit cancer research. If you are traveling in the USA or overseas, how about some foods that are unique to that area? Or a cookbook with dishes that are the specialty of the region?

All prize donations should be marked Raffle Luncheon and may be taken to Ginny Hutcheson’s house at 2494 E Bluejay Bluff Lane at any time. If you leave your name and email address, Ginny will be able to get receipts for tax purposes to you.
