Clothing & Household Goods Drive for Homeless Veterans
A big thank you to everyone, men and women alike, who worked so hard on Saturday at the VA Clothing Drive. With over 7,000 items plus $45 in monetary donations, one could say it was a huge success. On Monday when we delivered the donations to the VA, the staff was eagerly waiting for us.
Another huge thank you to all TWOQC members and our community that have been and continue to be so generous with donations. The VA reported that TWOQC is consistently the largest donor of the year. Kudos to Laura Colbert, Mary Lou Kiger and Peggy McGee for planning, coordinating and working many hours prior to the event culminating on Saturday and Monday! Awesome job ladies!
Afterwards some of those who drove donations to the VA were given a tour of the homeless facilities where Jodi Fredericks, Homeless Program Manager, explained the many programs available to help the homeless veterans get back on their feet and assimilated into the community. She explained how much the bicycles have meant to veterans going on job interviews or to work. Jodi said they have video surveillance cameras to ensure that the bicycles (and any donations) only go to the homeless or formerly homeless veterans and that each veteran must sign for the bicycle.
A big shout out to KOLD Ch. 13 News and Fox 11 News for such great coverage of our event! Check out the pictures and videos on our website and Google Photo Album: pictures & video of the event, plus the news story from KOLD Tucson News Now.
We also delivered 547 items of ladies’ apparel to Genesis House.
Note of Appreciation from the VA
We received a thank you letter from the VA for the baby items we delivered for a baby boy due to a formerly homeless mom in November. We also donated two boxes of gently used baby clothing (thanks to the White Elephant) and some books for children born earlier in the year. «THANK YOU NOTES»
