PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
In just over 7-weeks since we’ve transitioned to GroupWorks, we have found it to be a highly successful platform for communicating directly and frequently with our members. The Friday Morning Message (FMM) has been our communication tool to accomplish this same goal, however the FMM is not a members-only communication tool. The FMM is actually blog posts that deliver via email to all who subscribe to our public website updates. Many of our members do not realize that we (currently) have 293 member subscribers and 346 non-member subscribers.
We have decided to change the delivery schedule of the Friday Morning Message (FMM) from every other Friday to delivering a once-a-month message on the 15th beginning in April.
CORRECTION (4/14/21): The new e-Newsletter will deliver via email to our subscribers & post on this website in a few days. The scheduled e-News will be back on track to deliver on the 15th beginning in May.
The message will provide information of interest to our general public audience (local Green Valley community, and Quail Creek residents) and when warranted some cross-over information for members. The majority of messages to our members (posting of announcements, programs and events) will take place in our member-only platform, GroupWorks. All other areas of TWOQC’s website will continue to be maintained as we have done in the past.
Help us Name the News!
Since we’re changing from a bi-monthly FMM to a monthly communication message, we’d like you, our members, to help us name our monthly newsletter. To ensure your suggestion is submitted in time for consideration, please email your ideas to the Board by April 10 (send to president@womenqc.com).
BOOKIN’ IT INTO SUMMER!
Touch the Future – Give a Child a Book
A book drive for the students at the San Xavier Mission School in Tucson is being organized by a special committee of TWOQC members, chaired by Sharon Pulcinella, Programs Director.
The school serves 83 students in grades K – 8; most are living below poverty level on the reservation. These children have very few possessions, and books are rarely among them.
Our goal is to get 2 books into the hands of every student before they begin summer break on May 29th. We are soliciting books from our Quail Creek and Green Valley neighbors and reaching out to our friends as well.
Would you consider purchasing a book for one of these children? We are asking especially for donations for the students in grades 6 – 8, as there are more of them than in the younger elementary group, but would be grateful for any donation you would like to make.
Beginning on April 12th and ending on April 30th, there will be “Book Giving Tree” displays in the Madera Clubhouse Library, the CATC building, and in The Book Shop at 231B W. Esperanza Blvd. in Green Valley.
These “trees” will have tags attached with requests for books appropriate for different age groups. You can buy a book (or two), then place the tag inside the book and leave it at one of the locations noted above. Please consider supporting a local small business by making your purchases at The Book Shop. The owner has an excellent selection of children’s books and can help you make an appropriate choice.
If you choose to order a book on-line, you may have it shipped directly to Sharon Pulcinella at 664 Pebbles Ridge Drive. Need suggestions? E-mail Sharon at programs@womenqc.com.
Finally, if you prefer making a contribution by check, please make it out to TWOQC and write “Book Drive” on the memo line. You may mail your check to Sharon at the address given above.
The San Xavier teachers will see that the books get to just the right child. Thanks for helping us to get these children bookin’ it into summer!
PROGRAMS – OFFERINGS FILL THE CALENDAR
The Women of Quail Creek hit the trails! Leprechauns weren’t the only ones having fun in March! Several members of The Women of Quail Creek laced up their hiking boots and went exploring on a unique hiking adventure last week.
On March 18th, 5 TWOQC members were treated to a fascinating step back in time on their visit to the former Helvetia mining site that included the cemetery, the gates of the Imerys mine, and a stop at the old Helvetia slag pile. Leader Dinah Shumway shared her extensive knowledge of rocks, geologic time, mine history and uses of minerals with the hikers. Participants were also treated to a view of petroglyphs near the site. The Women of Quail Creek want to thank Dinah for sharing her time and expertise with us. PHOTOS
The third Trivia Challenge was held on Monday afternoon, March 22nd. Emerging as the March Trivia Champs were Marianne Cobarrubias and Susan Murphy. Congratulations!
APRIL 26 – Our next Trivia Challenge will be a team event on April 26th at 6:30 pm. Get your team of 4 together and register to compete against other teams. Each of the members of the winning team will receive a $5 Gift certificate to Culver’s. Watch GroupWorks for more information when the event is posted!
More to Come…
Join the “On the Go” team leaders Bonnie Hyra and Pat Neel for a group excursion to the Tucson Museum of Art. In addition to the museum’s permanent collection, the group will be treated to a special exhibition of 60 paintings, drawings, and illustrations of three generations of the Wyeth family, which are on loan from the Bank of America collection. This excursion has been posted for reservations on GroupWorks for all members in good standing.
Monthly book groups with unique topics and a variety of volunteer hostesses are also being scheduled. Members, watch for more information in the coming weeks on GroupWorks. Thanks to all who have already stepped up to host one of these gatherings!
If you have a hobby or talent that you would be willing to share with fellow TWOQC members, we would love to hear from you! Never underestimate what you have to offer! Contact Sharon at programs@womenqc.com.
WELCOME, NEW MEMBER
The Membership Committee would like to welcome our newest member, Roberta Scott. It’s so wonderful to have new members joining.
