PRESIDENT-ELECT’S MESSAGE
As our president, Becky Ashin, takes a break to visit with family, I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself and assist our webmaster, Marianne Cobarrubias, with launching our new e-Newsletter. My name is Diane Gordon, I am President-Elect this year, and look forward to serving as TWOQC’s President in 2022.
As we turn the corner with this new monthly venue (replacing the former every other week FMM) much of our member-only information will now be funneled through GroupWorks (GW). We will utilize this space on our homepage to share information that may pertain to our members and to our general and local community. When needed, some of the news that posts to our homepage, in between published e-Newsletters, will be auto-updated (but not always re-issued via email) so please check back to see if updated information has been provided. Also, check The Bulletin Board section in the right margin of this site (Sidebar) where additional information may also be provided.
Name the News!
Thank you to TWOQC’s secretary and GW administrator, Sandy DInnocenti, for creating a Poll in our GW account giving our members the opportunity to help “name our new monthly e-Newsletter”. If you have not already done so, please login to our GW account and access the Poll. Make a selection from the four offered titles. The Poll deadline is April 19. Members have the option of checking back after 10 PM on the 19th to see the results. Thank you for your participation!
BOOK DRIVE IN FULL GEAR
The Women of Quail Creek kicked off its Bookin’ It Into Summer drive on April 12th, with “Giving Tree” collection sites installed in the Creative Arts & Technology Center, the Madera Clubhouse Library, and The Book Shop at 231B W. Esperanza Blvd. in Green Valley.
The goal is to put 2 new books into the hands of each of the 83 students (Kindergarten – 8th grade) enrolled in the San Xavier Mission School in Tucson before they recess for the summer.
Many of our Quail Creek residents and friends “back home” have already donated books or money to buy books for this project, and we are well under way to achieving our goal.
Would you consider purchasing a book for one of these children? There are several ways that you can do so:
- Go to one of the collection sites listed above and take a tag from the Giving Tree, which will specify a grade level. Purchase a book appropriate for that grade level and return the book with the tag tucked inside to the collection site.
- To make a donation by check, please make it out to TWOQC, with “Book Drive” written on the memo line. You may mail it to Sharon Pulcinella, 664 N. Pebbles Ridge Drive, Green Valley, AZ (85614). A committee member will then purchase an appropriate book for you and let you know how your money was spent.
- Give a donation check directly to any member of the Book Drive Committee.
Please do not leave checks in the collection boxes. The collection sites will remain in place until April 30th. Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child!
SPRING BREAK FUN CONTINUES FOR TWOQC MEMBERS
As we transition from our Friday Morning Messages to monthly newsletters, the Programs Committee will be using GroupWorks (GW) almost exclusively to bring members the descriptions, dates, and details of upcoming members-only events.
Scroll down to the “Programs & Events” section for a sampling of what’s coming. This is where we will feature a list of upcoming events. Members need to log in to GW to reserve their spot for member-only programs or events as reservations become available. Those who have not yet subscribed to GW but would like to join the fun should contact Sandy DInnocenti for assistance! Please be reminded that the most up-to-date information can be found in GW.
Event photos will continue to be posted in the website Photo Gallery. Program and event Handouts will be provided on our website when provided.
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED ON APRIL 26
The 2020-21 scholarship season is wrapping up on April 26 when TWOQC will be awarding this year’s scholarships and honoring the recipients. There are two articles in the April Quail Creek Crossing which can be accessed online or our Quail Creek community can read the articles in the Crossing newspaper delivered via U.S. Postal Mail. One article outlines the Scholarship Committee interview/selection process, and the other talks about the mentor program.
Five Women-In-Transition (WIT) winners were selected earlier in April. All five can easily be described as resilient, tenacious, and persistent. All have overcome difficult circumstances growing up or in their early adult lives, yet they exhibited determination, compassion, empathy and generosity toward others. Recipients are pursuing careers in nursing, law, and working with victims of domestic abuse. (Scholarships page)
A video of the WIT and high school recipients was produced by Jim Burkstrand (thank you, Jim!!). The video link is also available on the Photo Gallery page.
CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY
HOMELESS VETERANS — The VA is currently accepting summer weight men’s clothing, calendars, reading glasses, sunglasses. They are also accepting unopened toiletries in both travel and full size.
Women Warriors is accepting summer weight women’s clothing and is especially eager to receive attire that is appropriate for the workplace. Sandals are in demand too. If you are in the Tucson area, you may drop off donations Monday-Friday 9:00-6:00 and Saturday 11:00-4:00. Women Warriors is located at 5851 E Speedway Blvd, Suite 141 in the rear of the strip mall. It’s between Craycroft and Wilmot.
Gently used clothing for both groups must be clean and in good repair. Socks and underwear must be new and in the original packaging. As summer bears down on us, both groups can especially use sunscreen and Chapstick.
