∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
My husband and I recently returned home from a trip to visit his family in Iowa. As I reflect upon our trip, I realized that the mystery and contradiction of traveling has been on my mind.
- Visiting family can be a blessing and a trying event all at the same time. How does that happen? And yet, to understand and accept that occurrence is the real delight.
- Driving with three dogs, pulling an RV and stopping for gas every 175 miles makes for a long day. But at the same time, it gave us a chance to stretch our legs, take care of some much-needed necessities, and breathe some fresh air. Not so bad after all.
- Traveling approximately 3200 miles for the two-week trip is a feat of endurance and a chance to have awesome conversations with my husband and listen to some priceless music that I haven’t heard for quite a while.
- Eating delicious food during a trip never has downside.
- The weather was trying at times – following severe thunderstorms, hail, flooding, possible tornadoes. However, enjoying the beauty and change in the countryside was incredible. Traveling from the Sonoran Desert to New Mexico’s White Sands, through the flat lands of Texas and Oklahoma, and the various greens of the Midwest is a delightful experience if one takes the time to notice and appreciate the change.
- Even though it was great to get away, coming home to our beautiful community and friends in Quail Creek reminds me that there is no place like home.
Where ever your travels take you this summer, may you take the time to notice the dichotomy of travel and appreciate both sides of the coin.
Warmly,
Debi Gutknecht
