∴ DEBI’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
I was visiting with my son the other day. We began a fascinating discussion about passions. Do we all have a passion? What if we don’t….are we not a living a full life? So, just what is a passion?
- Is it something that you have to do every day, or you just don’t feel fulfilled? I believe I have a passion for black and white movies from the 1940’s. But I don’t watch them very often. Can it be a passion if I don’t do something with it every day?
- Perhaps passion is an idea or activity that spurs a light within you that sparks a sense of glee. If this is the case, I think I have a new passion as I am exploring oil pastels in my artwork. But how long does an activity have to last to be a passion? Is it for a lifetime?
- According to Google, a passion is “an intense desire or enthusiasm for something”. Well, that word ‘intense’ makes me stop and rethink passions altogether.
There is a reason for my wonderings. It is that time of the year when The Women of Quail Creek begins thinking about who the leaders of our organization for 2026 will be. Who might have a passion to help TWOQC become even better than we are right now?
This I know:
- To be on the TWOQC Board, members don’t have to have a passion for leadership. Rather, just need a desire to help the organization continue.
- To be on the Board, members don’t need to do some aspect of the position every day. Each position is unique and has its own amount of time that is required.
- To be on the Board, members don’t have to make it a passion that lasts forever. Each of our Board members have a two-year term with the exception of the President-elect which is a one-year term followed by a one-year term as the president.
- And as far as the intensity of taking on leadership, I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that the camaraderie that the Board shares brings a sense of balance to any of the positions.
In December 2025, our members will be voting on the following four positions: Director of Programs, Director of Publicity, Secretary and President Elect. We ask our members to please give some thought to accepting a nomination for one of these positions. The TWOQC Nominating Committee will be in contact with our members soon. And remember, TWOQC cannot exist without members who are willing to take on positions of leadership.
Warmly,
Debi Gutknecht

∴ SCHOLARSHIP ∴
The Scholarship Committee is once again kicking off its Annual Matching Fund Campaign to Benefit TWOQC Scholarships. The Campaign runs from September 8 until February 28. This is the 3rd year that a group of generous Quail Creek residents have offered to match other donations 2 for 1. That means that for every $100 donated by others, they will donate $200. The Matching Campaign has allowed The Women of Quail Creek to award more scholarships to young women in our community and thereby change lives. To date we have awarded 127 scholarships worth a third of a million dollars!
If you have contributed to TWOQC Scholarships in the past, you will be receiving a personal invitation to join the Matching Fund Program once again. When you receive your letter, I hope you will consider what it means to each one of our scholarship recipients and please give generously.
If you are over the age of 72, you might want to have your donation paid directly from your annual RMD (Required Minimum Distribution). Using this IRS approved method, known as a Qualified Charitable Donation (QCD), your taxable income will be reduced “above the line” dollar-for-dollar in the amount of your donation – thus providing an even larger tax savings, particularly if you do not itemize your deductions. Be sure to mark your donation to benefit Scholarships. For more information contact scholarships@womenqc.com.
Javelina Hoedown ::: October 23
Our only fundraising event, the annual Javelina Hoedown will be held at the Madera Clubhouse on Oct 23. This is one party you won’t want to miss! Once again this year we will have a live band, Hardscrabble Road! The Silent Auction is back with amazing items from gourmet dinners, fabulous wood crafted items like charcutier boards and tables, to original artwork and so much more! You can also win cash in the 50/50 CASH Raffle! All proceeds go directly to fund scholarships!
Along with a chance to support TWOQC Scholarships and win cash or silent auction items, you will enjoy a delicious Chuckwagon Dinner, dancing, and a western style photo booth for fun pictures with your friends!
Javelina Hoedown Tickets go on sale September 1, from 8:30 – 10:30am in the lobby of the Madera Clubhouse. Or you can reserve tickets by emailing jhoedown2025@yahoo.com after Sept 1st. Other sale dates will be announced in What’s Happening (for the Quail Creek community) and on GroupSpot (for TWOQC members). Our general public can watch for updates here on our website, or contact us using the Hoedown email mentioned here.
So, get your friends together and dust off your boots and cowboy hat, and get your tickets early! Tickets are $60 each. Cash bar and Silent Auction both open at 4:00. Hoedown ends at 8pm. Hope to see you at there!
∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴
Great news! The upcoming Honor Flight, set for November 1-3, will carry 25 veterans on a commercial flight to Washington, D.C., where they will visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. Dozens of Quail Creek community volunteers write letters to the Honor Flight veterans, filled with gratitude, memories and words of encouragement, one of the most cherished parts of the Honor Flight experience.
The Quail Creek community has written letters for this scheduled flight, so we are all set. Thank you to TWOQC’s Honor Flight Liaison, Pam, for keeping us abreast of the veterans honor flight activities.
