∴ SHARON’S PRESIDENTS MESSAGE ∴
I have never been much for New Year’s Eve hoopla. That being said, I do take advantage of the opportunity to reflect and to set goals as the page turns over to a new year.
For me, 2024 promises to be a year full of opportunity to learn and grow as I assume the Presidency of TWOQC – completely new territory for me. I confess to feelings of excited anticipation mixed with a few butterflies.
This organization has come to mean so much to me since I joined in 2019! In addition to making some of the closest friends I’ve ever had, TWOQC has also provided a means by which I can make a difference in my community through service. Inspiring programs have opened my eyes to things previously not on my radar, and my involvement in getting small interest groups off the ground to enable members to connect in meaningful ways has been very satisfying as well. Finding an organization that aligns so well with one’s personal values is a blessing indeed.
But I think that the biggest gift that TWOQC offers its members is the opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth. It encourages us to step outside our comfort zones and to stretch ourselves by trying something we may never have tried before. Many of our members have answered the challenge by taking on a leadership position or becoming involved on a committee. Others have shared an interest or talent by hosting a small group event, and still others have found a cause that captured their heart.
Someone once asked me, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” I can honestly say that since becoming a member of TWOQC, I have made it a point to do something I have never done before on a regular basis, and that my life is so much richer and more interesting for it.
What will you put on your list of new things to try in 2024?
∴ SCHOLARSHIPS ∴
The Women of Quail Creek Scholarship Matching Funds campaign is within $2,000 of the $20,000 Scholarship matching goal.
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who responded with gifts totaling over $18,000 so far! The gifts have ranged from $25 to $5,000, and thanks to each of them, we are almost to the goal!
You can help get us over the top!
Every dollar donated is matched 2 for 1 by a $40,100 anonymously donated matching fund. Funds from this campaign will support scholarships to help local women achieve higher education and vocational training. Scholarships are need-based and the funds can only be used for tuition and school fees. Last year, TWOQC was able to award scholarships to 9 high school seniors and 8 Women in Transition (for older women returning to school).
Please consider helping TWOQC complete this match before the end of February.
Checks payable to TWOQC with “Scholarship Match” in the memo line can be mailed to: Linda Hauschild, 1932 E. Orinda Lane, Green Valley, AZ 85614. TWOQC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; your gift is tax-deductible in accordance with IRS tax law.
Scholarship Applications – Now Available!
Scholarship applications for both Women in Transition and high school are available to be completed on TWOQC’s website (womenqc.com/scholarships). If you know of a woman over 21 who is returning to school and needs help with tuition costs, please let her know about this opportunity and send the link to the application. For high school girls, all the information is available at the counselor’s office for Walden Grove, Sahuarita, and Rio Rico High Schools. Other questions can be sent to Deb Melton, Director of Scholarships (debwpski@hotmail.com).
The chilly weather of this winter when it is too cold to be outside for more than a few minutes is a perfect time to write letters to the Honor Flight veterans who will participate in the next Honor Flight on June 23-25. The letters will be due in April. So, there are just a few months to write your letters to these veterans.
Information about the Honor Flight program, including guidelines for writing letters to participating veterans, can be found at this link: womenqc.com/honor-flight. The letters can be individually written or copies can be made. It is most important to tell these veterans how much you care and appreciate their service to their country.
