It will be a fruitful year for our organization!
∴ FUNDING & GIVING: CHARITABLE FUNDRAISING ∴
Starting with the first day of January TWOQC begins its new year of fundraising. Before we begin our 2023 campaign for funds, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their donations for the 2022 year. Due to your generosity, we raised not only funds for Scholarships but were able to give to several of our Valley charities. Application for Funding Support
This year will be another round of Fashion Shows, Jim Click Raffle Tickets, Hoedowns and Fall Festivals. As more information concerning these activities is provided through various publications, we hope you will stay tuned for any and all of these events.
From the Director of Charitable Fundraising, on behalf of the Funding & Giving Committee and the Scholarship Committee.
TWOQC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
NOW AVAILABLE!
TWOQC Scholarship Applications are now available on the website for both High School and Women in Transition (WIT) scholarships. WIT applications are due by March 13, and high school applications by March 27, 2023. Interviews of selected applicants are held in early April, and a formal awards night is planned for April 24.
Thanks to the tremendous support of Quail Creek residents, through Javelina Hoedown participation, Jim Click Raffle ticket purchases, and many individual donations, this year the scholarship program has the largest amount of funds to award since the inception of the program in 2016. The Scholarship Committee anticipates awarding 15-16 scholarships this year.
Female high school students who are graduating this spring from Walden Grove, Sahuarita or Rio Rico High School are eligible to apply for scholarship awards of up to $2,500 to continue their education at a 2 or 4-year college or vocational school. While high school applicants generally work through their school counselor to make application, members of the Scholarship Committee also visit the three high schools during lunch periods to make students aware of the opportunity to apply.
Applicants for WIT scholarships of up to $3,500 must be at least 21 years of age and returning to school to complete an associate’s or bachelor’s degree or pursue vocational school training.
To spread the word about WIT scholarships, the Committee distributes flyers to local businesses, and has a growing list of professional offices, organizations and colleges that receive reminders about the application period each year so that they can help advertise the opportunity.
Beyond potential for success in the education or training program the applicant is choosing to pursue, need for financial assistance with school fees is part of the selection criteria.
TWOQC members who know of a high school student or older woman who might be eligible and benefit from a TWOQC Scholarship should encourage women to apply. Application information and forms can be found on the TWOQC website HERE. Read the Scholarship News
HONOR FLIGHT
The next Honor Flight that will be open to all veterans is scheduled for May, 2023. If you are hitting a stumbling block on what to say to someone you do not know, here is one suggestion: “Often, we do not dwell on the dangers that face our servicemen and women as they work to protect our freedom. I honor and celebrate you. You put your life on the line for millions of Americans through your service in our armed forces. I am so grateful to you for all that you have done for all of us!” For additional ideas, here are examples of letters and notes starters.
The veterans will read your letters during Mail Call on their flight home. These letters really make the day for veterans who believe no one appreciates their service or who have forgotten about them. Drop notes and letters in the collection box at 2719 E. Sawyer Rd, Green Valley (Quail Creek) by March 30.

TWOQC’s YANA
Toni Pastor assumed the role of Chair of TWOQC’s YANA Committee on January 3, 2023. She will be assisted by Julie Sherwood who will serve as the newly approved position of Co-Chair.
TWOQC’s YANA is a resource group committed to serving women who have lost a loved one. The Committee meets on the first Thursday of each month from 1-3 p.m. in the Mesquite Room in the Kino Center. Members of TWOQC interested in learning more about the group are invited to attend the meeting on Thursday, February 2.
If anyone knows of a woman in Quail Creek (membership in TWOQC is not required) who recently lost a spouse or partner, please contact Toni Pastor at (520) 399-4322 or email her tonipastor1580@gmail.com. Arrangements will be made for a committee member to contact the widow who experienced the loss. A condolence card will be sent first, then followed up within a few days by a phone call to see if she would like someone to visit and provide her with helpful resource information. She will be given a plant in a cup inscribed with a message of caring and hope. The Committee is NOT a support group.
