Message from the President
Plans for 2021 are well underway. We hope you’ll take advantage of all the small group programs being offered. We also hope that you’ll get involved! The new Funding and Giving Committee will need lots of volunteers to serve planning fundraising events, obtaining auction items, helping with interviews for organizations in need, and coordinating in general. (see the Recruitment article below).
Over 170 members gave us their input on our most recent survey. The Charitable Fundraising Team held several meetings to take the recommendations from the Fundraising Task Force and your survey answers to develop a recommendation to the Executive Board.
The Executive Board decided on the following:
- Create the Funding and Giving Committee (F&G Committee) under the direction of the Director of Charitable Fundraising – currently Nancy Jacobs
- Maintain most of our giving in Green Valley & Sahuarita
- Set up giving into 3 sections:
◊ TWOQC Designated Endeavor – Scholarships for High School and Women in Transition (WIT) – every year the scholarship endeavor will be funded first for a minimum of $15,000.
◊ TWOQC Projects – to be recommended to the Board by F&G Committee
Examples:
- Clothing and small appliance drive
- Food Drive for GV & Sahuarita Food Banks
- YOTO – Holiday Gift Bags
- Hold a teachers’ supply shower
◊ TWOQC Charitable Giving – F&G Committee will solicit needs assessments from potential charities. The Committee will make recommendations to the Board on which charities/organizations TWOQC should support. Monies will be donated depending on the needs of the charity.
- Hold 2 large fundraising events – a Fashion Show and Fun Seasonal Event with auctions to raise funds. Also, hold one Giving Day each year
- For 2021:
› Continue in-kind Holiday gift giving bags to YOTO if middle school children return under YOTO jurisdiction
› Plan a yearly clothing & small appliance drive – provide men’s clothing to VA homeless and women’s clothing to Genesis House and/or Women Warriors
› Provide Scholarships and Military Baby Shower as currently planned
Recruitment of Giving & Funding Committee Members
All members of TWOQC are invited to join the new Funding and Giving Committee formed to oversee all fundraising and donations, both monetary and in kind.
This committee will be planning and coordinating our yearly fundraising events and recommending how funds will be distributed. It will also bring the Scholarship Committee, as a sub-committee under the F&G Committee so they can continue with their current duties and maintain TWOQC Endeavor. The F&G Committee will be charged with developing and planning TWOQC Projects and Charitable Giving.
This Committee needs lots of volunteers, so if you have an interest in being involved in this exciting committee, please submit your name, phone number, and email address to Nancy Jacobs, Director of Charitable Fundraising at charityfundraising@womenqc.com by March 8, 2021. Thank you for your interest in this committee and in your community’s needs.
Scholarship Applications Nearing Close
Applications for the TWOQC 2021 Scholarships will be closing soon. Women-in-Transition (WIT) scholarship applications are due March 15. Women-in-Transition are those who are over 21, live in Pima or Santa Cruz Counties, and would like to further their education. If you know of a woman who could benefit from one of our scholarships, please direct her to TWOQC website to complete the application at womenqc.com/scholarships.
Senior girls at Walnut Grove H.S. and Sahuarita H.S. can contact their respective counselors. Those applications are due in the counselor’s office by April 6.
Membership
Please welcome our new members, Mary Ann Garman and Mary Greer. Make them feel welcome if you meet them at one of our small group offerings.
Exciting Program Announcements
Have you attended one of our small group or Zoom presentations yet?
Perhaps you were one of the 41 members who tuned in to Charlene Westgate’s excellent presentation on Pruning Desert Plants. Maybe you joined the 17 women who watched Sue Obremski as she demonstrated some amazing seasonal no-sew crafts. You could have been one of the 5 ladies who enjoyed a beautiful afternoon by Canoa Lake watching the waterfowl and other birds with our “On-the-Go” group or had fun painting rocks with Janet Rumford. You may even have sipped wine as you talked about your favorite books on Pat Neel’s patio.
Dozens of TWOQC members have already taken advantage of the educational and fun offerings that the Programs Committee is putting together for you — from Trivia matches to Tucson excursions. Click on this link for UPCOMING PROGRAMS & INFORMATION.
As February draws to a close, we can look forward to “Marvelous March”, with a little something for everyone on the calendar. Be sure to click on the “I’m Going” button (in GroupWorks) to register.
Rock on with Janet Rumford
THIS EVENT IS FULL! Janet is offering yet another of her very popular rock painting classes on Thursday, March 11 at 1 pm. This class is open to the first 5 members to sign up and is guaranteed to fill fast. The cost is $5 payable on the day of the event. If you have already attended one of Janet’s classes, please consider putting your name on the waitlist to allow other members to participate. Masks are required regardless of whether you have received your vaccine or not.
Attention all Hikers and Hikers-to-Be!
THIS EVENT IS FULL! Our “On-the-Go” leader Pat Neel has scheduled the third monthly excursion for March 16th to explore Quail Creek’s neighbor to the east, the University of Arizona’s Santa Rita Experimental Range. The SRER was founded in 1905 and is the oldest research areas maintained by the USDA Forest Service. See more about this event on GroupWorks.
Did you attend one of our recent past events? When available, photo albums were created for small-group and on-the-go excursions. Check out our program handouts page to view and download some of our Zoom’d presentations.
♥ The Programs Committee is looking for members who are willing to host one or more book discussions on their patios. This is a great opportunity to meet and interact in a small group (max. 5) with others who share your love of books. You may step up as hostess for one gathering or you may wish to start an ongoing group. If you would be willing to lead a discussion on your patio, please contact Pat Neel at patneel1@me.com.
♥ A special “Shout-Out” to our hostesses, presenters, and leaders!
