∴ PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE ∴

TWOQC 501c3 Seal EINThe Women of Quail Creek have been an Arizona nonprofit corporation and an IRS 501(c)(3) designated corporation for over one year. Many wonder what this all means financially.

We are currently updating our accounting to comply with regulatory reporting. We must file an annual report with the state of Arizona and a federal tax return. Donor information is necessary to support our tax-exempt status. We are required to track and report if a donation is restricted or non-restricted.

Restricted funds are donor directed contributions such as monies received for scholarships or for a specific charity. The donor determines how the funds shall be used. The Executive Board cannot use donor designated funds for any other purpose.

Unrestricted funds are donations received for a non-specific purpose. An example is the portion of a ticket above the cost of food for the Javelina Hoedown is an unrestricted donation. Those funds may be used for decorations, mailing supplies, or other items. These unrestricted funds usage is designated at the discretion of the Executive Board. The Executive Board is currently preparing the budget for 2023 to ensure that these funds are designated to support committee activities based on committee requests.

∴ FUNDING & GIVING ∴  Javelina Hoedown Wrap-Up

A Dancing Javelina BoarThis year’s Javelina Hoedown was a grand event. Thanks to everyone who donated Silent Auction items, Basket Raffle items, money and, of course, your time to make this event such a success.

After our expenses, we will be able to donate over $14,000 from the Hoedown to 2023 Scholarships. This total does not include the funds being raised from the sale of Jim Click Raffle Tickets which is ongoing and will be included in our Annual Charity report in January.

TWOQC Funding and Giving Comittee greatly appreciates all of you who continue to support our charity efforts to benefit our community and wishes you and yours the best of the Holiday Season.

∴ SCHOLARSHIP ∴ Hoedown & Donations Increase Scholarship Funding for 2023

The Scholarship Committee is grateful to everyone who helped make the Javelina Hoedown a great success this year – donors, those who helped organize the event, and those who attended and purchased raffle tickets and bid generously on auction items. The proceeds will support scholarship awards to both graduating high school senior girls and women returning to school after having to postpone completion of a post-secondary degree at an earlier age.

TWOQC is now a 501(c)(3) organization, making donations tax-deductible. Perhaps in part for that reason, the Scholarship fund has also received a number of individual donations to the Scholarship fund this fall. Donations can be made either as either dedicated/memorial scholarships or to the general fund. Anyone wanting to make an end-of-year donation to support the scholarship fund can mail or drop off a check (made payable to TWOQC with “Scholarship fund” noted) in the box at Judy W.’s home, 2116 E. Madera Plateau Drive. If you have questions about setting up a dedicated scholarship, contact Judy at: scholarships@womenqc.com.

A memorial fund has been set up in the name of Kim France, former teacher, and respected, long-time resident of Quail Creek who passed away recently. She was active in Lady Putters and was an amazing glass artist who taught classes at Quail Creek. Those who would like to honor Kim with a donation to the memorial scholarship in her name can send or drop off a check (made payable to TWOQC, with Kimberly Ann France Scholarship in the memo line) to Suzan Bryceland, 618 N. Yucca Butte Lane. There is a box at her front door to leave donations.

Through the generosity of many, the Scholarship Committee will have more funds to award next spring than in 2022. The growth of the Scholarship Program is something in which members of TWOQC should take pride, especially because education serves to empower women. The need is great, many deserving applicants have to be denied each year, and education fees continue to rise.

Scholarship applications will be available on TWOQC’s website beginning in early January, with application deadlines in late March.

∴ COMMUNITY OUTREACH ∴

Honor Flight —clipart_HonorFlight_logo Many thanks to those who wrote the 640 letters of appreciation to the 60 Native American veterans who went on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC earlier this month. The veterans were most appreciative of your words of gratitude. The next Honor Flight that will be open to all veterans is scheduled for May 2023.

Angel Heart Pajama Project — The collection of pajamas and angel heart pajama project CROPPED logobooks for children who will be placed in foster care will officially begin on November 21. Sponsored by the Community Outreach Committee for the Angel Heart Pajama Project (AHPP), this program provides new pajamas and books for children between ages newborn -14, (sizes 0-XXL). Donations may be left in the special boxes at the Madera Clubhouse between November 21 – December 10 or brought to the Madera Clubhouse on December 12 between 11 and noon when a representative from AHPP will pick them up. Monetary donations payable to Angel Heart Pajama Project would also be appreciated. The AHPP is eligible for the dollar-for-dollar credit on 2022 Arizona state tax returns, up to $800 for those filing jointly and $400 for single filers.
